About the role
Position Overview :
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Buyer to oversee procurement activities for assigned projects within our manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Senior Buyer will play a key role in ensuring timely, cost-effective, and quality-focused purchasing of materials, goods, and services to support production operations.
This role requires strong negotiation skills, an analytical mindset, and the ability to maintain effective supplier relationships, while also collaborating closely with internal departments such as Production, Quality, and Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end procurement and purchasing for assigned projects.
- Select materials and products through testing, observing, and evaluation.
- Review bid proposals and negotiate supplier contracts within budgetary limits.
- Prepare purchase orders and bid requests in accordance with project timelines.
- Verify vendor invoices and resolve any billing discrepancies in coordination with Finance.
- Maintain and analyze purchasing data for cost control reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually).
- Source, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers—including overseas vendors—for cost efficiency.
- Maintain procurement records and inventory data (delivery, cost, quality, performance).
- Address and resolve issues with defective or unacceptable goods with relevant departments.
- Ensure compliance with all contract administration policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Production and Quality teams on supplier performance and contract compliance.
- Oversee full setup and maintenance of the FeneVision system (BOM, cost, UOM, inventory control).
- Introduce KPIs and manage overall spending and inventory levels.
- Ensure timely purchasing of materials to prevent production delays.
- Support Receiving Department with quality and quantity verification of incoming goods.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- College diploma in Business, Supply Chain, or related field; Purchasing/Supply Chain certification is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of procurement and contracting procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and procurement systems; experience with FeneVision is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of purchasing regulations and best practices.
- Experience gathering and analyzing purchasing data for reporting and decision-making.
- Comfortable working in a team-oriented, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
