The Opportunity
The Tax Accountant will primarily be focused on preparing and filing tax returns and related forms, recording transactions for investment accounts, assisting with tax audits, maintaining online tax accounts, maintaining tax records and organizing year-end materials for external tax preparers. This role will work closely with finance, investment and legal teams.
The Tax Accountant role is suitable for an individual who has some background and familiarity of Canadian tax and has proficiency in preparing tax returns and related forms. The successful candidate will have great attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and is a self-starter.
Responsibilities
- Prepare Canadian tax returns (personal, corporate, partnership and trusts) forms and elections.
- Perform quarterly investment bookkeeping and tracking of investment accounts.
- Assist with preparation of documents and responses for tax audits and reviews and communicate with CRA.
- Observe and note-take in meetings with tax advisers.
- Assist with preparation of materials for meetings.
- Assist with preparation of year-end materials for external tax preparers.
- Periodic review of CRA online account for all family members and entities to ensure tax accounts/instalments are up-to-date and download all correspondence to hard drives.
- Maintain tax folders.
- Assist with GST and PST Returns.
- Complete ad-hoc tax research, where necessary.
Qualifications
- 0.5-1.5 years of relevant tax experience at a public practice firm or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Familiarity with Sage, or equivalent ERP.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (Taxprep, Profile, or equivalent).
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Excellent organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail .
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the team.
- Ability to perform with a high level of integrity, authenticity and curiosity.
This is a general description of the tasks and skills required. Additional responsibilities and duties may be required to successfully perform this position. This role requires the candidate to be in office a minimum of 4 days per week.
