Intermediate Mechanical Designer
About the role
Your Impact
You will be responsible for design of automation machinery based on customer information, company and departmental standards, and supervisor and peer input. Responsible for ensuring that the design meets the customer’s expectations, is completed within the scheduled timeframe, and can be manufactured within the budgeted time and costs.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Required to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company Health and Safety and other Policies
- Determine, understand and verify the function and mechanics of assigned projects
- Review initial concept with sales, project manager, customer and supervisor, as required
- Formulate machine design in CAD using simple, efficient and cost effective processes
- Specify and obtain quotes for specialized purchased equipment
- Source and qualify all purchased mechanical, sensing, pneumatic and hydraulic components
- Compile Sequence of Operations, I/O List, Pneumatic BOM and Valve Bank Layout
- Responsible for checking and releasing BOM to Purchasing
- Work with assigned programmer to create working program
- Respond to questions from machine shop and assembly during building of machine
- Work with machine builder throughout the debugging phase
You’ll Be Great At
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
- Ability to work at advanced levels of design complexity
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Level of Autonomy and Authority
- Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features and methods of approach. Receive assistance on unusual problems. Work progress is under periodic review.
- May be responsible for the design of a single station on a complex line or an entire standalone machine of a simpler nature.
- May provide assistance to machine shop, assembly, junior designer and detailer with respect to the work being performed.
Key Requirements
- Technologist Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years of Mechanical Design experience or equivalent
- Valid Passport and driver’s license may be required, as well as the ability to travel to customer sites both locally and internationally
