Eligibility Bluewater Elementary and Secondary Occasional Teacher Roster
External Applicants
Elementary Teachers- no restrictions (can apply to increase FTE).
Secondary Teachers- no restrictions (can apply to increase FTE).
Dates: Commencing on September 1, 2025 and ending on January 29, 2026 or earlier if circumstances change or incumbent returns.
Location: Bluewater District School Board Education Centre, Chesley
Travel to schools within parts of the district is required but there may be flexibility and discussion regarding school assignments.
Annual Responsibility Allowance: $6,012.00 (Sept. 1/22)

Position Summary The System Special Education Lead Teacher (SSELT) holds qualifications to teach special education in accordance with Regulation 298, supporting special education programs and services within the board. The successful candidate will be a coordinator of special education programs and services for students within Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) and will work as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team to meet the special education needs of all students, including those transitioning in and out of BWDSB schools.
The SSELT will support the vision, mission, and priorities of Bluewater District School Board, while contributing to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively as a member of the SSELT and Learning Services Student Support teams
- Provide support for administration and staff in assigned schools
- Liaise with community partners to provide quality supports for students with special education needs
- Provide case management support for school-based teams
- Collaborate and provide coaching for educators implementing strategies to support students with special education needs
- Coordinate and provide training for administrators, learning resource teachers, and special education teachers
- Provide resources for educators related to strategies and programming to address special education needs in the classroom
- Develop educator capacity to create goals and plans to support students including the development of individualized programming involving accommodations, modifications, and alternative programs
- Support Universal Design and individualized strategies for students with special education needs
- Support transitions of current and incoming students
- Support school-based teams with the development of Individual Education Plans, Strategies for a Successful Day, and Positive Behaviour Safety Plans
- Work collaboratively with school-based teams to support the assessment of student progress through observations, and data collection
- Complete reports and applications supporting program placements or additional educational resources
- Support requests for specialized equipment and transportation
- Attend case conferences and school team meetings as requested
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications And Experience
- ETFO or OSSTF Teacher in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
- Special education qualifications required
Assets
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with students with a variety of special education needs
- Experience in coordinating and facilitating professional development for administrators, school and system-based staff
- Skills in developing Individual Education Plans including the development of accommodations, modifications, and alternative programming
- Knowledge of, and experience using, special sducation software platforms and BeSafe modules (like those currently found in eLite)
- Experience with coaching and mentoring school teams with programming and supports in special education
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Knowledge of BWDSB Strategic Plan, Special Education Plan, Learning for All, Growing Success, and Ministry of Education information related to special education
