Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for keeping specialized equipment in peak condition? The City of Edmonton’s Parks and Roads Services branch is looking for a dedicated Equipment Maintenance Repair Person to join our Branch Integrated Support Services team. In this vital role, you will be the backbone of our operational readiness, ensuring that the tools and fleet our teams rely on are safe, functional, and ready for action. You will work closely with functional teams to bridge the gap between field operations and technical maintenance, playing a key part in the lifecycle of our diverse assets. What will you do?

  • You will perform basic maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of small equipment, including blowers, trimmers, and saws, to ensure they remain in safe working order
  • You will maintain meticulous digital records of assets, tracking their location, condition, and value using software like Asset Tiger and Google Workspace
  • You will manage the receiving and delivery of equipment and materials between various City yards and external vendors
  • You will lead seasonal audits to verify that equipment is present, safe, and correctly located across the branch
  • You will collaborate with fleet coordinators and functional teams to evaluate equipment for lifecycle replacement and prepare units for disposal or surplus
  • You will operate various hand and power tools while conducting heavy manual work to support yard and fleet operations
  • General housekeeping of warehouse storage areas
  • Drive a City of Edmonton vehicle as required to complete pickups or deliveries
  • Additional related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • One year of experience in fleet or equipment operations and maintenance

Assets:

  • Possession of an Apprentice Certificate in a relevant trade
  • Small Tool Training
  • Knowledge in Occupational Hazards and Safety policies and legislation
  • Knowledge of equipment and materials used to support PARS operations

Skills required for success:

  • You possess a strong technical understanding of small engine mechanics and are comfortable maintaining and repairing both traditional gas-powered and modern battery-powered equipment, such as blowers, trimmers, and saws
  • Experience in equipment/fleet maintenance or yard operations
  • Prior experience managing inventory within a large-scale municipal or industrial environment
  • You are highly skilled in the safe operation of various hand and power tools—including drills, wrenches, and hammers—and have the ability to identify minor defects across a broad range of fleet equipment and attachments
  • Ability to prioritize tasks independently to meet tight deadlines
  • Actively participate in Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) to ensure a 'safety-first' culture for yourself and your teammates
  • Collaborative communicator who can work effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors
  • Adept with technology and computer programs, e.g. Google suite, MS Excel, Asset Tiger
  • Ability to work in cross functional teams, across programs and work collaboratively to share resources and information
  • Basic Computer skills and the ability to use smartphone applications, respond to emails and maintain simple records

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen and coveralls
  • Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and/or indoors in shop settings
  • Exposure to environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, inclement weather, dust, poor air quality, noise, vibrations, chemicals, animals, and exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards may occur
  • This role requires completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, lifting items up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, and using feet/hand control, requiring physical stamina and resilience
