Join Our Team as a Jr. Engineering Specialist (Co-op) at Johnson Electric!

Location: Mississauga, ON (onsite)
Pay Range: $24 to $24 hourly
Vacancy Type: Student position, starting from January (16 months)
Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Relocation: No
Travel: Minimal

As our next Jr. Engineering Specialist (Co-op), you’ll assist Metallurgists in developing new materials and processes to support business development initiatives across multiple facilities. This role requires creativity, flexibility, and innovation to resolve technical challenges through collaboration and data analysis.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Actively participate in developing processes, components, and equipment selection.
  • Assess physical structure and properties of various materials used in products.
  • Produce reports summarizing results, observations, and recommendations.
  • Support AI and workflow automation projects (Python programming and Microsoft Power Automate experience is an asset).
  • Utilize data visualization and analysis tools (Power BI, JMP) where applicable.
  • Assist in processing prototypes, conduct trials, and present data to project teams.
  • Develop Standard Work Instructions (SWI).
  • Communicate progress on tasks and projects regularly to the department.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by raising concerns and proposing solutions.
  • Lead specific projects as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Johnson Electric Canada Quality and EHS Policies, including IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Third- or fourth-year Engineering student in a Materials discipline.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgical preparation procedures.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and graphing).
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
