About Us

The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, Provincial Protective Services (PPS) Branch ensures the protection of people, natural resources and infrastructure. PPS unites conservation, highway patrol, and Safer Communities and Neighborhoods (SCAN) officers, prisoner transport and court security deputy sheriffs, and Wascana Park community safety officers and aligns provincial protection services under a single organizational structure.

The Opportunity

The PPS Branch requires an experienced and forward-thinking individual who is committed to public safety for the position of Deputy Director, SCAN North.

SCAN is primarily responsible for maintaining and contributing to the safety and well-being of Saskatchewan communities through the reduction of crime and associated risks by targeting and if necessary, shutting down residential and commercial buildings and land that are being used for illegal activities such as drug trafficking, grow operations, sex trade activities, child sexual exploitation and organized crime/gang related offences.

Reporting to the Director of Policing and Investigative Services within the Protective Services Branch (PPS), this position will:

  • Manage and supervise the administrative and operational processes of the SCAN North program and investigation unit in order to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Manage and oversee investigators and support staff, provide leadership and direction, and review employee performance.
  • Develop strategies, implement plans and methods of delivery to ensure quality service to Saskatchewan relevant to the SCAN program mandate.
  • Act as a designated official under The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act, The Seizure of Criminal Property Act, and The Witness Protection Act.
  • Provide oversight of SCAN North operations, file management, administrative budget, approve all expenditures, make recommendations to the Director on current budget and budget forecasting matters.
  • Responsible for liaisons and protocols with law enforcement, government and public agencies.
  • Ensure all required training is completed and in compliance with the applicable policy and procedures of PPS and the Government of Saskatchewan.
  • Responsible for maintaining and ensuring physical security and integrity of the SCAN offices.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have outstanding leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communications skills; advanced knowledge in several areas of policing including investigative experience as a Police Officer or Law Enforcement Officer, with experience in drug, gang and VICE investigations, combined with supervisory/managerial experience.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of a recognized Canadian Police Academy/College plus significant investigative experience as a Police Officer or Law Enforcement Officer, experience in drug, gang and VICE investigations, combined with supervisory/managerial experience.

To be eligible for this opportunity, the selected candidate will:

  • Be required to undergo an enhanced security screening process and obtain and maintain a security clearance as a condition of employment.
  • May be required to participate in a pre-employment psychological evaluation.
  • The successful candidate must be eligible for appointment as a Special Constable pursuant to The Police Act, 1990 (SK).
  • Obtain and maintain qualification in use of force and firearms consistent with the Saskatchewan Police College standard.
  • Be willing to work flexible shifts with extended hours, including travel outside normal working hours, when required.
