Job Summary:
The primary role of the Scoop Operator is to operate mining equipment to load, haul and dump ore or waste from development and/or production area, load trucks and maintain roadways in a safe manner.
General:
- Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings - high level of alertness required.
- Scale back and walls as required to make the workplace safe.
- Install or fix existing mines services such as vent tubing and pipes using various lifting equipment such as scissor trucks, chain blocks and hand tools.
- Setup pumps after mucking
- Operate large mobile equipment such as 8 yard Cat scoop (Scoop tram), scissor lift (man lift), and/or 30 ton trucks;
- Coordinate haulage trucks and traffic in the area
- Prep and clean faces for bolters and jumbos, build pads in large excavations, muck sumps and maintain clean roadways
- Receive instructions or directives from Shift Supervisors and Captain to coordinate day to day ground control requirements;
- Assess all excavations and install ground support in development or reconditioned areas as per plan and section as the development progresses;
- Keep track of all advances and communicate to supervisors and cross shifts footages and volumes on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner

Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions

Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.

Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.

Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- 2 years or more experience as a miner
- Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Mining Specialty Module U0010, U0068A, U0068B, Common Core
- Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner – Common Core
Knowledge Required
- Demonstrated ability to read mine plans and specifications for underground mining.
- Ability to multi task and work effectively
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
- Ability to work in hot environments
- Respectful of cultural differences
