About the role
WEST PARRY SOUND ONTARIO HEALTH TEAM
HEALTH DATA & ANALYTICS SPECIALIST
JOB POSTING: OHT 2025-09
TEMPORARY FULL-TIME – until March 31, 2026 with the possibility of extension.
(The OHT is open to discussing potential secondment agreements for this contract)
Location: This position is primarily remote within Ontario, with occasional in-person meetings in Parry Sound as required.
Located on the coast of beautiful Georgian Bay, the West Parry Sound Ontario Health Team (WPS OHT) offers the best of both nature and technology. We provide services along the coast of Georgian Bay, living in one of Canada’s top outdoor adventure destinations. You can get from desk to dock in 10 minutes!
Ontario Health Teams are Ministry-approved collaborative health services made up of provider organizations including primary care, hospice/palliative care, long-term care, home and community care, mental health and addiction services, acute care, and other community-based services. These teams are collectively dedicated to the equitable improvement of population health and finding better, more efficient ways to receive and deliver care and services.
The Health Data & Analytics Specialist is a key member of our small, close-knit Ontario Health Team (OHT). You will help consolidate, automate, and manage our data so that dashboards, reports, and performance tracking systems run reliably and sustainably.
This role focuses on building practical data infrastructure that supports current initiatives and future growth, while ensuring compliance with healthcare privacy regulations. You will also support quality improvement initiatives, create dashboards, and provide actionable insights - helping strengthen the OHT’s long-term data foundations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys collaboration, continuous learning, and building practical solutions that make a real difference. You will also connect with regional analytics supports to help ensure local dashboards and indicators align with standardized Northeast (NE) reporting.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Infrastructure & Automation
-
Design and maintain centralized data structures to consolidate information from multiple sources (EMRs, Excel, surveys, SharePoint).
-
Build and maintain automated ETL/ELT workflows using tools such as Power BI dataflows, SQL, Power Query, or Power Automate.
-
Ensure data pipelines run reliably, reducing manual work, and can be maintained by the OHT team.
Practical Data Analysis & Reporting
-
Work with partner organizations to gather, clean, and prepare data in manageable, practical ways.
-
Create clear summaries and visualizations that help teams understand trends, needs, and opportunities.
-
Provide thoughtful insights to support planning, clinical pathways, and system improvement - without overcomplicating the analysis.
Building User-Friendly Dashboards
-
Design and maintain straightforward, sustainable dashboards tailored to the needs of our small OHT.
-
Help teams interpret the dashboards so they can use data confidently in their day-to-day decisions.
-
Work with regional data colleagues to keep our local work aligned with NE dashboards and indicators.
Quality Improvement (QI) Support
-
Partner with small teams to support QI initiatives using practical tools like PDSA cycles and run charts.
-
Help measure progress, track improvements, and make data easy to use throughout the QI process.
-
Support a culture of learning, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Data Governance & Sustainability
-
Develop simple, practical data quality and governance practices suited for a small, multi-partner environment.
-
Support partners in using consistent indicators, definitions, and reporting practices.
-
Ensure data is accurate, responsibly managed, and stored in compliance with PHIPA.
-
Develop documentation, data dictionaries, and workflows to support sustainable systems.
Collaboration & Relationship-Building
-
Build trusting relationships across our partner organizations — many of whom have small teams and greatly value support.
-
Tailor your approach based on each partner’s comfort level with data and analytics.
-
Participate in regional communities of practice to bring back learning, tools, and templates we can apply locally.
Learning, Innovation & Growth
-
Bring forward new ideas that help our teams work more efficiently and effectively with data.
-
Stay connected to evolving analytics tools, digital health solutions, and QI methods — and help others understand them at a pace that feels manageable.
-
Support the team as we continue to strengthen our data foundations together.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Certification
-
CHIM (Certified Health Information Management) is a strong asset.
-
Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Health Information Management, Data Analytics, Public Health, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.

-
Ability to interpret data and communicate findings clearly.
-

-
Ability to balance quantitative results with real-world context and lived experience.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Ability to explain technical concepts in plain language.
-
Enjoys working closely with small teams and supporting partners with varying comfort levels with data.
