The Supervisor of Immigrant Services will provide leadership for employees, operational issues, funding relationships and further program development as a key member of the IS leadership team.

What you’ll Be Doing…

  • Responsible for operational planning for Immigrant Services for the programs under their supervision

  • Support a team of Settlement Workers in assisting newcomers by conducting comprehensive needs assessments, delivering accurate and timely information and orientation sessions, and providing appropriate referrals to community and government services, in alignment with IRCC’s expected outcomes and service delivery standards

  • Monitoring the operations and financial progress status of the programs under their supervisor

  • Provide Manager of Immigrant Services, internal/external stakeholders and funding partners with regular updates and monthly reports.

  • Responsible for hiring, training, leading and coaching of employees on the team.

  • Ensuring that funder/government reports are accurate and submitted as per timelines.

  • Assisting program leaders in the preparation of funding/grant applications.

  • Managing employees by participating in the selection, performance management, coaching and training programs/processes etc.

  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships within the community – liaison with strategic community partners and agencies and active participant in networks, alliances and planning groups.

  • Provide leadership and operational coaching to their direct reports to ensure effective consistent communication regarding daily operations, policies and procedures and best practices.

  • Build positive relationships with key referral partners, to ensure quality of services and identify community needs.

  • Ensure risk management plans are implemented and non-compliance issues are resolved.

  • Participating as a positive member of the overall Leadership Team.

  • Assumes other duties as assigned.

What you will bring…

  • 7+ years of previous experience and post-secondary education or a comparable combination of experience and education. University Degree specializing in Social Work or equivalent disciplines such as Sociology, Psychology, and Philosophy.

  • Experienced people leader with a demonstrated understanding to serve the needs of newly arrived Canadians in our region.

  • Knowledge of immigration legislation and trends

  • Previous experience in:

    • Leading teams (minimum of 1-3 years’ experience preferred)

    • Hiring and onboarding of new team members

    • Resolving team and client issues

    • Settlement sector and understanding of immigration legislation and trends.

    • Developing settlement programs including measuring key metrics (e.g. outcomes)

    • Strong people focus and have an ability to build positive relationships.

    • Ability to work within government agreements escalating issues to Manager as appropriate.

Key Competencies:

  • Highly collaborative approach in developing strong relationships with partners

  • Strong written ability in writing reports and proposals

  • Analytical ability and evidence-based approach

  • Strong commitment to the principles of social justice, knowledge of Knowledge of the lived experiences of diverse and equity seeking communities, particularly newcomers, as well as understanding of Justice, Access, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (JAIDE)

  • Strong knowledge of immigration issues, updated knowledge of Canadian immigration programs and laws, consulting around immigration considerations related to - refugee settlement issues, and cultural adaptation are required.

  • Strong business acumen, financial literacy and basic accounting skills are required to support funding program management.

Work Environment:

  • Typical office work environment

  • This role requires some travel across the region, which may not always be easily accessible through public transit.  The employees must be able to arrange their own transportation to these sites.  A valid G driver’s license and full-time vehicle access are recommended.
