About the role

Applications are invited for an experienced administrative professional to join our team as the full-time Administrative Assistant to the Office of Indigenous Initiatives for a one-year term.

As an organized, detail-oriented professional, the Administrative Assistant is the initial point of contact within the office, providing general administrative support to the Office of Indigenous Initiatives. Being able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and collaborate with members of the team are key attributes of the successful applicant. This position includes a broad range of administrative functions, such as; assisting with Elder and Knowledge Keeper requests; scheduling meetings; preparing, editing, and distributing meeting materials; website maintenance; coordinating and logistical planning of events; dealing with confidential situations; assisting in preparation of reports; preparing items for signature; expense and department budget processing and monitoring; ordering supplies/equipment; and assisting with various initiatives and projects within the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, along with other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To be considered, candidates must have a one (1) year certificate in Office Administration or similar program and have at least three (3) years’ experience in a similar role. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must be experienced in Indigenous ways of knowing and being and have demonstrated experience engaging with members of the Indigenous community in culturally appropriate ways. Experience working in a post-secondary institution, in the public sector, and/or a unionized environment is an asset. An ability to exercise discretion when accessing or handling confidential information is vital in this role. Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Rank and Salary: Excluded Support Staff I (ESS – I) Exempt position with a salary of $54,563.00 per annum.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, health spending and vision coverage along with a defined benefit retirement plan and group life insurance. Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 4:30, 35 hours per week.
