Your Opportunity

In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 – Student Employees, and under supervision of the Indigenous Access & Services Coordinator and in coordination with the Indigenous Transition Planner, the Student Employee – Indigenous Services Peer Mentor will:

Functions and Duties

The Student Employee will assist the supervisor by performing the following duties:

  • Participate in peer mentor training, meetings and check-ins with Indigenous Access Services (IAS) staff

  • Inform visitors and peers about IAS

  • Engage with all peers in the Indigenous Centre and inform and encourage them to engage in social events

  • Assist on how to navigate through the College environment

  • Submit completed student help forms to supervisor

  • Assist with and attend IAS and campus events

  • Organize and tidy the Indigenous Centre on regular basis

Position Specific Functions

Education and Experience

Minimum 1 year in an accredited post-secondary program and be registered in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College

Prior work experience is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of Aboriginal people and culture, and/or desire to increase awareness

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, excel), internet

  • Prompt and self-motivated

  • Organizational and time-management

  • Interpersonal and communication skills

  • Cheerful attitude and positive role model
