Registered Practical Nurse, Emergency Department
About the role
When every second counts, your skills matter. With an opportunity to experience high turnover, fast-paced situations and mixed acuity patients across the lifespan, this is an opportunity to grow your practice while making real-time impact. As a Registered Practical Nurse, Emergency Department at Mount Sinai Hospital, you’ll find strong interprofessional collaboration, meaningful autonomy through medical directives, and regular opportunities to build your confidence through simulation and case-based learning. In our modern, recently redeveloped environment, where every shift strengthens your clinical agility and judgement.
Is this you?
Are you confident navigating varying pace and unpredictability? In this role, that means staying grounded and focused as patients present with urgent needs across the acuity spectrum. You’re quick to adapt, reprioritizing as situations evolve, and staying composed when patient volumes increase or colleagues call on you to assist during a rapid change in patient condition. Your ability to think clearly under pressure helps sustain the team’s momentum and prevent delays in care when every moment matters.
If you are someone who actively seeks to learn from each shift, you’ll value the variety and complexity this department offers. Whether reviewing case outcomes, asking questions during downtime, or participating in simulation-based learning, you view each experience as an opportunity to grow your nursing skills. You reflect on how to refine your approach, adapt your clinical reasoning, and better support patients through complex or unexpected presentations. That commitment to continuous improvement adds depth to your nursing practice and supports a culture of shared learning within our interdisciplinary team.
You bring a professional mindset to every interaction, especially when time is short and decisions matter. In the Emergency Department, that means voicing clinical concerns early, escalating without hesitation, and organizing your tasks based on shifting patient needs. Whether supporting a colleague during a code or briefing a physician mid-shift, you bring clarity to situations where precision and timing are critical. Your ability to communicate clearly with colleagues across roles, supports safe and coordinated responses under pressure.
