Position Overview:
We are seeking an Engineering Technologist - Gas Design for our Gas Engineering & Construction Department in Winnipeg, MB.
Under the general supervision of the Gas Design Engineer; review, analyze, design, cost and draft additions and modifications to the
Company's pipeline and station facilities considering capacity limitations, customer requirements and other applicable criteria.
Responsibilities:
- Complete Engineering designs, drawings, bill of materials and installation procedures for additions or modifications to the
company's natural gas distribution system. Initiate, write and updates design records as required.
- Identify long lead materials for designs and assist in preparation of purchasing specifications and material management.
- Compile cost estimates for new distribution systems in RUCES, using information on unit labour and material rates.
- Maintain and enhance existing distribution design and drafting systems.
- Complete review of third-party construction drawings to identify potential conflicts with existing or proposed natural gas plant.
- Support Gas Planning for distribution system optimization.
- Maintain organized, detailed files for all information generated; including details of all input data, the source of the data, and all
assumptions used.
- Initiate a hydraulic analysis for all new distribution system additions.
- Prepare monthly reports for all projects.
- Maintain effective lines of communication with co-workers, customers, outside agencies and authorities, suppliers of
equipment and services, and the general public on work related matters as required.
- Manage and organize required third-party approvals for projects.
- Work primarily in an office environment. Will occasionally be required to conduct field visits to obtain technical information.
Qualifications:
- Possess a two year Mechanical or Civil Technology diploma from a recognized college which is eligible for Mechanical or Civil
Technology CET designation, plus a minimum of three years of direct experience in natural gas distribution design, including
project coordination, cost estimation, and compliance with industry standards, codes and regulatory requirements;
OR
- Eligibility for certification at the Technologist level as a Mechanical or Civil Technologist by CTTAM (Certified Technicians and
Technologists Association of Manitoba), plus a minimum of three years of direct experience in natural gas distribution design,
including project coordination, cost estimation, and compliance with industry standards, codes and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer system including the use of eGIS, RUCES, word processing,
spreadsheets, databases and other technical and analytical programs. Experience with AutoCAD and AutoPLANT would be

an asset.
- Knowledge of the corporation's gas distribution system as well as gas design standards and materials would be an asset.
- Familiar with and demonstrated adherence to Manitoba Hydro's Safety Manual and other approved practices and procedures.
- Possession of a current valid Manitoba's Driver's Licence, Class 5.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $37.66-$53.54 Hourly,
$72,166.38-$102,601.98 Annually.
