Position Summary

The Supervisor – Customs will supervise assigned staff to ensure timely release of freight and entry confirmation. This position provides guidance to staff to perform their job efficiently and accurately and requires working professionally with both internal and external clients to ensure the best possible service.

Key Responsibilities (Supervisory/Materials/Information)

  • Supervise workflow and monitor production of assigned team members.
  • Perform quality control functions to ensure assigned staff complete transactions accurately for accounting.
  • Rate transactions; contact clients and vendors for additional information as needed.
  • Database maintenance (e.g. vendor, item, rate code, CUSMA).
  • Provide guidance to assigned staff members on complex problems and issues.
  • Answer inquiries from clients regarding release of their shipments.
  • Assist with updating procedures as needed due to legislative and other changes
  • Monitor client shipping processes (e.g. flow of paperwork, paperwork requirements) to ensure compliance and expedited releases.
  • Assist Manager with staff performance appraisals, as well as work and vacation and statutory holiday schedules. Schedule regular team meetings as well as attend departmental meetings. Review and approve attendance submissions on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Liaise with Consulting department regarding status of CUSMA certificates for clients.
  • Perform a variety of other related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent experience
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation in good standing
  • Minimum of 5 years of Customs Brokerage experience
  • Some Supervisory experience an asset
