The Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist and Training Leader role will maintain and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation relating to training and certification for all Marwood employees. The focus is on the training and development of Marwood employees including the prevention of accidents, incidents, and injuries through theory and practical training. This role will work closely with HSE Manager on various projects and compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the Trainer-HSE for all training-related activities
  • Develop training material, presentations, and structured training programs to promote employee safety in the workplace
  • Ensure all training compliance is in good standing and meets internal and external regulatory requirements
  • Work with various members of the company to ensure standardized training processes across all departments
  • Ensure OHSE compliance with company and government regulations, reporting, and documentation
  • Responsible for all ISO-14001/4500 I Management Representative activities and customer environmental reporting
  • Maintain OHS/Environmental and other relevant audits are completed
  • Responsible for PPE management and reporting
  • Responsible for overseeing the Marwood Apprenticeship program
  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with legislation, best practices, and training methodologies
  • Ensure all new hire orientations, safety onboarding, and refresher training sessions
  • Track training metrics, analyze trends, and prepare monthly/quarterly training performance reports
  • Support Joint HealthSafety Committee (JHSC) activities, including occasional meeting participation and follow-up on action items and support HSE Coordinators as needed Support and develop and maintain emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure readiness of emergency equipment
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, audits, and feedback mechanisms, implementing improvements where needed
  • Maintain training schedules, calendars, and communication to ensure timely completion of mandatory training
  • Liaise with external training providers, auditors, and regulatory bodies when required Assist in developing and updating safety policies, procedures, and safe operating standards
  • Support with return-to-work and modified duty processes by coordinating training and safety accommodations in complying with assigned duties and limitations
  • Ensure proper documentation and follow-up for workplace incidents, near misses, and corrective actions
  • Oversee On-Site Contractor Due Diligence, approval processes, and record-keeping systems Support HSE Manager with projects as required
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality where required and advise management on important issues
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Skills/ Capabilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork and demonstrated presentation skills
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of ergonomic principles and ability to apply principles in a wide range of work environments.
  • Excellent knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, EPA, and WSIA Regulations
  • Access to a vehicle to travel to all Marwood plants
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrates effective organizational, multitasking and problem solving abilities

Key Requirements***:***

  • University or college degree/diploma related to Occupational Health and Safety / Environmental Studies
  • 1-3 years working in the health, safety and environmental field, preferably manufacturing environment
  • JHSC levels 1 and 2 certification
  • CRSP/CRST designation an asset
