Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Lakeshore West Existing Stations Rehabilitation (ESR) team is seeking a Project Coordinator to coordinate the design and construction of multiple projects along the West Corridor stretching from Union Station to Hamilton, in a safe, timely, consistent, and cost-effective manner.

Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $49.68 per hour

What Will I Be Doing?

  • Oversee the project work of contractors to ensure compliance with the Project Agreement, Metrolinx’s Engineering Standards, Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements and internal user group requirements through, design, and construction administration.
  • Plan and report all capital project expenditures such as consultant fees, purchase orders, construction contracts, change orders and cost sharing agreements with public or private organizations.
  • Coordinate project design to minimize customer impacts, ensure all internal and external approvals are obtained, and that design reviews are completed timely and schedule restrictions are adhered to.
  • Coordinate with external agencies including the Railways to ensure compliance with legislation, codes and the requirements of governing/regulatory authorities, including the incorporation of external agency work within GO Engineering Projects.
  • Work on project team to ensure project completion and commissioning for handover to user group. This will require working on site and will require some night work.
  • Prepare performance evaluation for consultants and contractors. Also, prepare project post evaluation reports including project cost analysis.
  • Will be working on an Alternative Funding and Procurement (P3) construction contract model.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and co-ordinating contracted engineering projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil engineering and architecture.
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training and certification required to stay current on regulations and industry standards and as by corporate policy.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate policies and procedures and applicable contract legislation.
  • Thorough understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal skills and analytical ability are a must.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
  • A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate, reflecting a class “G” license in good standing.
  • This position requires the successful candidate to be present at various designated onsite locations as assigned by their leader, for a minimum of three (3) days each week. Additionally, as an operational business continuity functional coordinator, the candidate should be prepared to make regular visits during evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
