Home Décor & Garden Supply Sales Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Home Décor & Garden Supply Sales Supervisor is responsible for driving sales, managing product orders, and ensuring the upkeep and excellence of the Home Décor and Garden Supply departments. This includes, but is not limited to, seasonal patio and outdoor living accessories, fashion, boutique and Christmas décor, everlasting plants, giftware, garden and lawn care products, fertilizer, tools, fountains and statuary, outdoor water products, planters, pots, and birding supplies. As a leader within the Garden Centre, you will actively coach, mentor, and lead by example while working safely and promoting the best interests of Sheridan Nurseries.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and direction to all Home Décor and Garden Supply Sales Associates, including holding all direct reports accountable and actively providing training, coaching, and mentorship.
- Be familiar with, and actively strive to achieve, store and Home Décor and Garden Supply category sales targets.
- Assist guests by answering inquiries, conveying product knowledge, and providing a high level of guest service while ensuring that each guest receives the complete solution to suit their needs.
- Exhibit, and foster amongst all department staff, an enthusiastic, helpful, and positive sales-oriented attitude towards all guests, ensuring a high level of guest service.
- Oversee Home Décor and Garden Supply category inventory at the store level, ensuring quality standards are met while minimizing scrap, shrink, and aged inventory while maintaining accurate records of damaged, unsaleable, or store use product.
- Maintain product quality in collaboration with other departments to ensure the maintenance and general upkeep of all Home Décor and Garden Supply product on the store premises.
- Submit supplemental orders that allow for inventory levels to be maintained for maximum sales while also ensuring that inventory targets are met at year-end.
- Oversee seasonal changeovers of Home Décor Category and Garden Supply category product in accordance with Store and Company directives.
- Collaborate with warehouse and receiving staff to ensure that all incoming Home Décor and Garden Supply product shipments have been accurately verified, priced, and are readied for display on the sales floor within the timeframe outlined by company policy, and that credit requests are forwarded immediately for all short-shipped, damaged, or unsaleable items.
- Maintain a presence within the Home Décor and Garden Supply departments, respond to calls when required, and ensure that all guests receive assistance with their purchases and inquiries.
- Maintain department standards of excellence and visual merchandising standards.
- Communicate with all department staff members to ensure that new product, strategies, and other relevant departmental information is understood to maximize and achieve intended results.
- Actively seek to increase knowledge base of all product offerings within the Home Décor and Garden Supply categories.
- Collaborate with Store Management, the Retail Merchandiser, and Category Manager on the planning and implementation of departmental floor plans and merchandising displays while considering location, interest, color, like products and other merchandising features in the display.
- Ensure execution of all marketing promotions and signage within the departments.
- Work in conjunction with Management and the Joint Health & Safety Committee to ensure a safe work environment for all through active observations, hazard reporting, coaching on relevant health and safety best practices, and leading by example.
- Other duties as assigned by Management.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Work all required shifts including, store opening and closing responsibilities.
- This role will require the flexibility to work a variety of shifts including day, evening, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- The job requires extended periods of walking and standing, as well as being able to lift 50lb and work in various weather conditions and environments.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have completed high school and be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Existing knowledge base of Home Décor and Garden Supply category products – including seasonal patio and outdoor living accessories, fashion, boutique, Christmas décor, everlasting plants, giftware, garden and lawn care products, fertilizer, bulk and bagged stone, soils and amendments, tools, fountains and statuary, outdoor water products, planters and pots, birding supplies and pond products – with an ability and commitment to learn and develop.
- Previous experience in retail sales.
- Passion for the industry and position with an enthusiastic approach to selling and guest service.
- Leadership and organizational abilities, including effective teamwork.
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions with an attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt and prioritize multiple tasks and situations with effective time management skills.
