About This Team

We are a 24-bed unit with a mix of General Internal Medicine and Cardiology patients primarily requiring medical management for their acute illness that include congested heart failure, pneumonia, COPD, cancer and related complications, gastro-intestinal and other disorders. Our nurses work within an inter-professional team structure and maintain optimal nurse-to-patient ratios across shifts.

In This Role You Will

Provide direct patient and family centered care for general internal medicine and cardiology patients Complete physical assessments on patients Administer medications and provide any necessary care (wound care, IV insertion and management, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.) Attend nursing rounds and safety huddles, and participate in patient/family meetings Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc. Apply a broad range of nursing skills including (but not exclusive to) CADD pumps, nephrostomy tubes, complex wounds, central lines, enteral feeding tubes, TPN, CIWA monitoring, managing a Code Blue, and chemotherapy Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Job Requirements

Mandatory

Currently registered as an RPN and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Graduate of a CNO-approved practical nursing program.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred

2 years of recent acute care clinical experience

Demonstrated ability in providing quality patient-focused care and addressing the fundamental care needs of patients and their families Proven ability to make sound professional judgements and practice decisions, and demonstrate effective time-management and organizational skills in a fast-paced work environment Demonstrated leadership skills Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills Excellent oral, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in interprofessional teams
