Purpose:

To plan aircraft loads ensuring safety and efficiency parameters are met and to generate Weight and Balance documentation for all WestJet and contracted airline flights.

Description:

  • Assemble and monitor load information, including:

    • Baggage and cargo weights
    • Fuel uplift
    • Crew complement
    • Passenger numbers
    • Any service weight adjustments.
  • Plan or monitor the load distribution within the hold of the aircraft with consideration for maximizing operational efficiency.

  • Ensure load priorities are observed and optimize position loading for multi-sector flights.

  • Ensure that the aircraft is loaded within the limits for the taxi weight, zero fuel weight, take-off weight and estimated landing weight.

  • Ensure that the aircraft load is distributed so that the aircraft remains within the allowable weight and center of gravity limits during all phases of flight.

  • Ensure compliance with Dangerous Goods regulations and segregation of special loads.

  • Ensure that position weight limitations or floor loading limitations are not exceeded.

  • Liaise with WestJet Cargo to coordinate cargo movements.

  • Liaise with Flight Crew, Airport Ground Handlers and Team Leaders to resolve any conflict in loading requirements.

  • Prepare and distribute loading and offloading instruction reports.

  • Prepare and send aircraft weight and center of gravity trim reports.

  • Address any last-minute variations in load in accordance with WestJet and contracted airline procedures.

  • Ensure all calculations and documentation are accurate and comply with all safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-year airport or operations experience required (ground ops, CSA, DDC or similar); specific ground handling knowledge and experience is an asset

  • Must hold a Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification (ROC-A radio license) in accordance with Industry Canada guidelines prior to the completion of training (approximately 3 weeks from start date)

  • Must write and pass the company Load Control exam prior to completion of training (approximately 3 weeks from start date)

  • Must write and pass the Dangerous Goods exam prior to completion of training (approximately 3 weeks from start date)

  • Working knowledge of Sabre Applications, including FliteTrac Plot, is an asset.

  • Minimum intermediate level of MS Office applications.

  • High degree of motivation and commitment to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • The ability to multi-task during high stress situations with minimal supervision.

  • The ability to communicate in clear, accurate, concise and professional manner.

  • Strong math skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capability of establishing respect and credibility through actions.

  • Able to work shift work 24/7 for shifts up to 12 hours duration.

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check will be required if not already complete.

  • As per our Alcohol and Drug Policy, all offers of employment are conditional on passing a pre-employment drug screening test (if coming from a non-safety sensitive role).
