Accounting Coordinator

Annual salary: $64K - $69K
Position Highlights
Consolidates, prepares and performs basic analysis of financial and management information to support business
decisions.
What you'll do
- Consolidates various periodic financial statements and reports, operating statistics, graphics and other financial and
management information to support business decisions and to meet external reporting requirements; monitors and
reconciles general ledger accounts; prepares journal entries to record, correct or adjust accounting information.
- Coordinates, analyzes and prepares portions of the annual management plan and budget; provides instructions,
guidelines, information and assistance to management and staff on the development of management plans and budgets;
analyzes operating information for financial validity and follows up with responsible manager and staff to reconcile, correct
or clarify information; enters data into the planning system; prepares various reports for the management team; prepares
and consolidates variance analysis schedules and reports; responds to queries from management and staff.
- Prepares, maintains and analyzes accounting information for capital and other projects; identifies and provides
assistance to managers on significant cost or expense variances; recommends solutions to basic capital accounting issues;
prepares Expenditure Authorization Requests (EARs) to manage operating and capital budgets for an assigned
responsibility area; reviews payment processing requisitions for compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
- Monitors transaction processing and reporting to ensure reliability and integrity of financial data; reviews details of
accounting source and other data and follows up to correct and advise originators of proper procedures and required
corrections; administers accounting and internal control procedures over processes such as: aged analysis, third party
damage claims, sundry accounts receivable, energy diversion, plant assets and similar accounts for an assigned
responsibility area; may follow up with customers to expedite late or missing payments; refers uncollectable accounts to the
Credit Bureau or Legal Services.
- Participates in developing and analyzing information needs; identifies the need for system or procedural changes; tests
system or procedural changes and verifies the results.
- Provides project related assistance to prepare business case documentation and supporting cost/benefit analysis;
prepares and assists with approval process for Expenditure Authorization Request (EAR) documentation.

Provides technical guidance and direction to financial administration and other staff.

Performs minor duties related to the above duties that do not affect the value of the job.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
Ability to analyze and prepare various financial and accounting statements and reports.
Ability to analyze and prepare various portions of the annual management plan and budget.
Ability to prepare variance analysis and supporting documentation, spreadsheets etc.
Ability to administer various accounting and internal control procedures, processes and policies.
Ability to provide assistance to managers and others on financial and accounting matters.
Ability to participate in the implementation and testing of revised system or procedural changes.
In depth knowledge of BC Hydro's accounting and financial systems and processes.
Good working knowledge of budgeting, cost analysis, accounting and variance review procedures and practices.
Working knowledge of BC Hydro business operations and financial/accounting requirements and systems.
Awareness of corporate policies e.g., procurement, financial authority approval policy, expenses and travel.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Excellent knowledge and proficiency in the use of Excel for data analysis and financial information reporting.
Well developed oral, written, interpersonal communication, financial analysis and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of BC Hydro's operations.
What you bring
Completion of college level accounting courses plus demonstrated proficiency with pivot tables, custom filters, lists,
VLookup and data management in Excel.
A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated working knowledge in a divisional level financial support job requiring an in-
depth knowledge of accounting, financial systems, procedures and processes. Must have a working knowledge of financial
impacts on business operations.
