We’re hiring a Senior Commercial M&A Advisor to join our central Commercial organization. In this role you’ll play a key part in shaping and executing high-impact transactions across the enterprise. You will lead complex transactions across Suncor’s portfolio, including acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships. This highly visible role requires strong business judgment, financial acumen, and the ability to lead cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic energy environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15 years of progressive experience in the energy industry
  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated M&A transaction experience
  • Experience leading the evaluation and execution of acquisitions and divestitures through closing, along with a strong understanding of transaction processes, stakeholder roles, due diligence requirements, transactions agreements and execution steps
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen; MBA, CFA, or CPA designation preferred
  • Proven ability to prepare and deliver materials to senior executive audiences
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams while also working independently to deliver high-quality results
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments, consistently identifying and executing value-creating opportunities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams in the execution of commercial transactions, including M&A, divestitures, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships
  • Identify, screen, develop, and rigorously evaluate new business opportunities
  • Lead the development of robust financial models, valuation analyses, and commercial assessments to support transaction decision-making
  • Prepare high-quality presentations and executive briefings for senior leadership and Board-level audiences
  • Support negotiation strategy, due diligence coordination, transaction structuring, and participate in negotiations for significant Acquisition and Divestiture transactions within a defined negotiation mandate with sophisticated counterparties
  • Use capital market and Mergers and Acquisition research tools to provide ongoing analysis and updates on market dynamics, industry conditions, and recent transaction activity
  • Identify value-creation opportunities and contribute to strategic portfolio optimization initiatives
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with time-sensitive deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and execution excellence

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours and travel based on business needs.
  • Our professional business roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work.
