Are you a passionate journalist ready to lead impactful storytelling in one of B.C.’s most dynamic and fast-growing regions? We’re looking for an experienced newsroom leader to shape the news agenda across the Nanaimo area — communities rich with stories that matter.

As Editor of Nanaimo News Bulletin, you’ll guide a team of dedicated reporters in delivering timely, hyperlocal journalism that connects readers to the issues, people and events shaping their lives. This is a unique opportunity to influence how news is told in a region where local journalism truly makes a difference — every single day.

Qualifications Include

  • Excellent news judgement and experience in digital-first community news reporting.
  • Ability to analyze audience data and apply insights to guide story selection and team assignments.
  • Strong editing skills paired with a collaborative, respectful feedback style.
  • Clear understanding of the evolving media landscape and digital best practices.
  • Sharp critical thinking and sound editorial decision-making.
  • A passion for mentoring journalists and an eagerness to adapt and grow in a fast-paced environment.

Black Press Media places key importance on maintaining timely, accurate, and engaging digital coverage, while also elevating the impact of print storytelling. Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach and motivate reporters across multiple communities are essential.

Applicants must hold formal journalism degrees or diplomas, with demonstrated experience as an Editor in a digital newsroom. Experience in broadcast or multimedia journalism is a distinct asset.
