Engineering Manager
VTR Feeder Solutions Inc. - Grimsby, ON
We are hiring an Engineering Manager to join our team! VTR is looking for an experienced Engineer to lead and develop our Design team. Please note: this is a permanent, full-time, and in-person role at our Grimsby facility.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years in a similar engineering and design role, with long-term team management experience to help manage, coach, and grow our Design team. This role will be responsible for Design work as needed. The selected candidate will also demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, a team-oriented attitude, strong attention to detail, and effective organizational skills within a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated knowledge of machine design and industrial automation would also be an asset.

Shift Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, Day shift; The employee must be on-site by 8:00am
- 8.5-hour day with ½ hour lunch from 12:30pm-1:00pm
- Minimum 40 hours per week
Overview:
Design Responsibilities (As Needed):
- Report to Plant Manager
- Generate concept representation, proof of principle, preliminary or final design CAD models
- Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes as needed
- Design and perform proof of principle
- Create and generate the manufacturing package and associated BOM
- Maintain detailed notes, design calculations, and other documentation (including drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters and performance guarantees)
- Effectively communicate, coordinate, and troubleshoot with all necessary departments, including Service, Manufacturing, Assembly, Electrical Controls, and Project Management
- Provide customer support as needed
- Review and adapt to information regarding product innovations, competitors, and market conditions
- Follow design standards and best practices
- Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines, as well as VTR’s Mission, Vision, and Values
- Other duties as required
Management Responsibilities:
- Oversee and lead Mechanical Design department
- Delegate projects and tasks to Mechanical Design department members
- Ensure team members are adhering to Quality and Design standards and best practices, budget, and timelines
- Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate regularly with other departments, including Service, Electrical Controls, Assembly, Manufacturing, Innovation, Project Management, and Senior Management regarding project updates, issues, etc.
- Attend various required meetings, including Kick-Off, Production, and other meetings
- Review and update RoadRunner as needed
- Create, set, train, and manage Design Standards
- Coach and assist Mechanical Design Team with Design work, debugging, and troubleshooting as needed
- Facilitate training and development for each member of the Mechanical Design department
- Mentor the departments Engineers and Engineers-in-training to advance their skill and knowledge
- Assist HR with hiring, performance review, and progressive discipline processes for Mechanical Design department
- Research, advocate for, and assist with department enhancement and innovation
- Ensure team is following Health & Safety guidelines and adhering to VTR’s mission, vision, and values
- Other general tasks as required
What You'll Bring:
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer
- Professional Engineering Designation required
- Long-term experience and strong knowledge of machine design and automation Industrial Automation as an asset
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar Design Lead, Management, or Supervising role
- Experience within medical, nuclear, aerospace, food, or packaging industry design
- Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks required
- Post-Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Drafting in CAD systems
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, & Teams
- Demonstrates innovative and "out of the box" thinking
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to work under tight deadlines
- Demonstrates innovative thinking and proactive/reactive problem-solving skills
- Commitment to quality and safety
