The Position

Redeemer University invites applications for a tenure-track position (open rank) / Assistant Dean of Teacher Education in the School of Education beginning July 2026. The successful applicant will join the enthusiastic team of teacher-educators serving candidates in Redeemer’s accredited Bachelor of Education program. Candidates must be aligned with and passionate about Redeemer’s Christian mission of integrating faith in teaching.

Reporting the to the Dean of the School of Education, the successful applicant’s job will be distributed among the following three categories: Service 60%, Teaching 30%, Research 10%.

As Assistant Dean of Teacher Education will:

  • Supervise the planning and implementation of practicum and field placements in the BEd program:

  • Supervision and support of the Practicum Coordinator;

  • Recruitment, orientation and supervision of Faculty Associates;

  • Orientation of Teacher Candidates prior to practicum;

  • Annual review and revision of practicum handbooks;

  • Ensure alignment of the practicum component of the BEd. program with regulatory requirements.

  • Assume BEd program oversight, ensuring the BEd program is current and responsive to anticipated regulatory changes and current developments in the field of education;

  • Stay intentionally informed and current regarding best research-based practices in teacher education, particularly as these relate to theory/practice connections, keeping faculty informed of recent developments;

  • Represent the School of Education at the Ministry of Education/Faculties of Education Liaison Committee (MOE/FELC) (three meetings per year).

  • Attend meetings of the Independent Ontario Deans/Directors of Education (IODDE) with the Dean;

  • Assist in regular BEd program review processes, both internal and external;

As a tenure-track faculty member, the successful applicant will teach up to 9 credits that serve teacher candidates in the School of Education. This individual will have an academic and practice background that equips them to teach a variety of pre-service courses. Experience or expertise in Language Arts and Literacy is an asset.

Pending budgetary approval, this position will commence on July 1, 2026. Early start dates can be considered if appropriate.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

The successful applicant will

  • Have a mature personal faith in Jesus Christ, a deep understanding and personal conviction of the Reformed Christian worldview, and an ability to integrate and support the integration of faith and learning in a Christian post-secondary context.

  • Have experience teaching teacher-candidates or mentoring novice teachers and the ability to teach a number of courses in the BEd program.

  • Have experience and/or knowledge of the school systems in which practicum and field placements take place. Ideally this includes experience with mentorship and professional development of teachers;

  • Possess superior oral, interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with faculty, students, potential students, and other internal stakeholders;

  • Possess exceptional people skills, including the ability to motivate faculty associates and staff members and create a relational and collaborative environment.

  • Have the ability to navigate complex practicum situations as they emerge.

Education, Training & Certifications

Preferred applicants will have a terminal degree in Education, however well-qualified applicants who do not possess a terminal degree but have a Masters degree and significant applicable experience will be considered.

In addition to these materials, applicants must include a 1-page to 2-page document describing their own Christian faith commitment and practice, its alignment with Redeemer’s mission and its impact on their academic and professional work. A range of qualifications will be evaluated, including distinguishing characteristics that demonstrate congruence with Redeemer’s identity as a university in the Protestant and particularly Reformed Christian tradition.
