This is a Toronto based opportunity with a 3 day in office expectation (Tuesday - Thursday) with 2 days remote (Monday and Friday).

You’ll join AI Platforms – AI Enablement, the team that enables all Wayfair teams to build, deploy, and operate AI-powered solutions at scale. We provide the foundational platform for both technical and non-technical users, with governance, observability, and cost management built in. What You’ll Do:

• Support designing and perform hands-on building of platform services and tooling that make it easy for teams across Wayfair to build AI-powered applications that are reliable, scalable, and easy to maintain.
• Help build and operate AI/ML pipelines and model deployment systems, including services that orchestrate AI workloads on Kubernetes and in the cloud.
• Contribute to the development of end to end AI solutions that can power the full range of AI initiatives at Wayfair.
• Ensure that engineering quality standards are met within your team through testing, code reviews, documentation, and incremental delivery.
• Contribute to architectural and code review discussions that impact our engineering ecosystem, especially around AI platforms, observability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with leads and engineers on your team to solve a wide variety of business and technical problems, from debugging production issues to shipping new platform features.
• Ensure our systems are properly documented so that other engineers can easily build on top of AI Platforms.
• Contribute to the growth and development of the Wayfair engineering organization by bringing a learning mindset, providing clear status updates, and sharing what you’ve learned with your peers.

What You’ll Need:

Basic Qualifications

• 0-3 years of transferable experience in a corporate environment, including internship and co-op experience.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 1-3 years of transferable software development experience (full stack, backend, or platform/tools development) in a corporate environment, including internship and co-op experience.
• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
• Knowledge and experience working with object oriented programming languages and core CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, complexity).
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, with a strong preference for Python or Go; exposure to Java is a plus.
• Experience or exposure to SQL and working with relational data.
• Experience or exposure to modern AI/ML or data frameworks through coursework, projects, research, or internships (e.g., building a chatbot, RAG system, recommendation engine, or ML pipeline).

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent team player with a passion for collaboration and clear communication in a fast-moving, highly iterative environment.
• Familiarity with creating software tools and functionality, debugging code, and successfully incorporating feedback into your work.
• Strong skills in solving complex problems with simple abstract solutions, including talking through trade-offs and how you navigated roadblocks in past projects.
• Experience building or contributing to AI applications, such as:
• • Chatbots or virtual assistants
  • RAG systems that retrieve and ground model responses in business data
  • Applications using embeddings, vector databases, or real-time model inference
• Exposure to containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and/or cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure).
• An interest in working with big data and machine learning, including experimentation with generative AI and prompt engineering.
• Experience working in agile environments and comfort iterating quickly as AI technologies evolve.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to take on projects or tools autonomously, including owning well-scoped tickets and driving them to completion.
