PRODUCTION ARTIST AT MEC We are looking for a detail-obsessed Production Artist to join our in-house creative team. At MEC the production artist will execute design for marketing purposes. Deliverables will consist of and are not limited to printed advertisements, store signage and windows, catalogue, packaging, and other promotional materials. In this role, you are expected to combine your creativity with your technical abilities to prepare graphic material for production using industry-standard design software. Acting as the final checkpoint in the creative process, you will be responsible to ensure consistency and accuracy in the technical finalization of design projects. MEC is a fast-paced environment which will require you to work on a high volume of designs while trouble shooting with our operation team and print partners. You will work closely with the art director, senior designers, freelance graphic designers and vendors to ensure all deliverables meet high visual and print production standards.
Location: This is a hybrid role based at MEC's Support Office in Vancouver, requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office.
Core Responsibilities
- Collaboration: Work closely with art directors and graphic designers to ensure concept is respected in final assets.
- Management: Work simultaneously on multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced in-house environment
- Design Refinement: Fine-tune layouts, imagery or typography to improve the effectiveness and technical accuracy of concept. You are expected to regularly monitor and optimize existing layouts to ensure consistent application of brand guidelines.
- Image Manipulation: Performing high-quality retouching, colour correction, and clipping path creation for product imagery.
- File Preparation & Prepress: Formatting designs for final output, including setting proper bleed, margins, resolution, and colour profiles
- Quality Control: Reviewing final files for errors like missing fonts, low-resolution graphics, or copy inconsistencies before release.
- Delivery: Service press-ready files and packages for different uses, including web, print, and mobile applications to our external partners
- Asset Management: Maintaining organized digital libraries, archiving project files, and managing version control.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a production artist role
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design,
- Software Expertise: Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of printing processes, digital publishing standards, and file optimization
- Basic knowledge of Figma is a bonus
Skills
- Experience working in an in-house creative or marketing team
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Strong time management to meet strict deadlines
- Clear communicator and collaborative team player
- Comfortable working on repetitive production tasks without losing focus
- Solutions-oriented mindset when troubleshooting file or print issues
The Compensation & Perks! This is a permanent role with the anticipated salary range of $65,000 to $81,100 . The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications and internal equity.
