Title: Communications Assistant
Reports to: KIP Coordinator
Position Type: Permanent Part-Time, 28 hours per week
Salary: $22.13-$24.32 per hour

Position Summary
Working closely with the Director, Community Health, the KIP Coordinator and the KCHC Communications Coordinator, the Communications Assistant supports the knowledge transfer and exchange process for program initiatives and outcomes. The Communications Assistant monitors and supports social media engagement and presence for KIP and KCHC programs across platforms and materials. The Communications Assistant also provides hands-on support for digital and print communications, including website updates, signage and other related tasks that strengthen organizational and program-specific communications.
Key Responsibilities

Internal Communications:
-
Work closely with the KIP and KCHC Communications team to ensure that deliverables and results are shared and distributed professionally.

Prepare and assist with presentations, meeting agendas and minutes.
-
Support the creation and distribution of internal calendars.
Social Media and External Communications:
- Create, disseminate and monitor roll out of communication messaging and branding including uploading materials on websites and mobile applications, and ensuring appropriate and on-going social media content.
- Liaise with vendors, community partners, and umbrella organizations.
- Create, review and update flyers and forms to support branding consistency using clear and inclusive language principles.
- Create and schedule social media content
Communications Responsibilities:

Support completion of reports, promotional materials, and documents. With guidance from the supervisor or delegate, support the successful completion of recurring and one-time communications events.

Support development of media releases and other communications materials and disseminate to various audiences/outlets as directed by supervisor.

Update and maintain website content, including edits and event postings.

Update the Welcome to Kingston App to ensure information remains accurate and current.

Review and update email signatures to maintain organizational consistency.
-
Coordinate the design and printing of business cards and signage.
Administrative:
-
Providing administrative support in order to ensure release of high-quality materials.

Support processes related to communications improvements, such as website updates, social media, screen-based promotions, and print materials.

Ensure communications are congruent with EDIIA principles.
Organizational Responsibilities

Comply with all relevant legislation and KCHC policies, including privacy laws

Commits to acquiring an understanding of the importance of trauma responsiveness and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

Commits to demonstrating an ongoing commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigenization and Accessibility (EDIIA) by representing the diverse nature of our communities, promoting and practicing inclusion

Supports consistent application and development of KCHC policies and procedures

Basic Education and Experience Requirements
-
Relevant post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media) or a combination of education and experience will be considered.

Minimum one year of work experience demonstrating skills that can be directly applied to theposition.
-
Willingness to become familiar with KCHC, its programs and current communications activities, particularly KCHC staff newsletter, and KCHC social media platforms.
-
Experience updating websites and using social media as a communications tool. Experience with media relations and/or photography, prefered.
-
Experience developing media releases and other communications materials preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to speak and create communication materials in French or additional languages will be considered an

Self-starter with evidence of high levels of organization, attention to detail, and time management
-
Experience with graphic design, layout, clear language and infographics will be considered an asset.

Ability to work cooperatively and communicate well in a team-based environment.

Excellent written and digital communication skills.

Competence with MS Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to use other communication tools/platforms, including WordPress an asset.

Awareness of, and ability to support, provincial and federal privacy regulations and KCHC policies.

Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement.

Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly.
