Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experiencedSenior Accountantto manage core accounting functions, support financial reporting, and contribute to continuous process improvements. Reporting to the Controller, this role is critical in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the payroll function, including employee data maintenance, group benefits administration, pension plan management, processing payroll and uploading payroll journal entries into the accounting software.
- Prepare and review periodic bank reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies between book and bank balances.
- Monitor and maintain inventory costing records, performing detailed analysis of cost variances and implementing corrective actions to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of information required for GST and PST filings, as well as other regulatory filing requirements.
- Liaise with external auditors and support audit requirements and tax filings.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Supervise and mentor AP and AR staff, conducting regular reviews to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to procedures.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to gain efficiencies.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities. Assist in preparing, analyzing and reporting monthly KPI dashboards to the senior management team.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities and perform additional duties as directed by the Controller and VP, Finance.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience preferably in a retail set-up with experience in working on ERP platforms.
- Demonstrated experience in payroll processing, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Comprehensive knowledge of inventory accounting practices and costing methodologies, including average costing.
- Self-motivated with the ability to quickly adapt, take ownership, and work independently.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to efficiently handle, analyze, and interpret large volumes of data.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
