In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 – Student Employees, and reporting to and under the direct supervision of the AD, EDI, the Student assists the AD,EDI (supervisor) to liaise with OCSU (Penticton, Kelowna, Salmon Arm), VSA-OC (Vernon), and Campus Life Committees, to bring a student perspective into OC’s Inclusive Community initiatives. Specifically, the student will assist the named people to work together to plan, host, and evaluate a student engagement event on each campus and a parallel form of remote engagement event for learners who cannot access campus for in-person events. The form of event will be determined through the planning process, which may include gathering student input into preferred modes of engagement. The focus of the engagement events is: 1) to advance a culture of inclusion by providing opportunities for students to gather together; and 2), to create an opportunity for students to offer feedback on ways to build a culture of inclusion at OC.
Functions and Duties

Attends planning meetings with AD, EDI, OCSU and VSA-OC, and Campus Life Committees to bring forth a student perspective to discussions.

Assists with organizing and documenting the planning and implementation process: setting meeting times, circulating agendas, keeping minutes and other information.

Assists with gathering student input into event form and generating student interest in participating.

Provides concrete assistance with implementing the event, as necessary and appropriate, and attending events as a peer, student-to-student voice for EDISJ and Inclusive Community.

Assists in planning for and analyzing student feedback in the event, and surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of the event.

Other duties as required and appropriate.

Education and Experience
Registered in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College.
Prior related work experience is an asset.
Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate with sensitivity and comfort with others (individually and in a group setting) regarding challenging issues and different opinions around Inclusive Community (anti-racism, discrimination, experiences of exclusion, resistance to EDI work)

Strong leadership, interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Ability to work both in a team environment and independently

Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, work environment tools for supporting administrative aspects of planning and implementing event (calendaring, shared file storage, online meetings, etc)
