Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Project Coordinator for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Facilities Project Administration department.

Reporting to the Director, Planning and Projects, you are a key member of the project team providing project management support and coordination, focused on specific deliverables, parts of projects, and/or sub-projects with scheduling, organizing, data gathering, progress updating, recordkeeping, and reporting. You will also lead the development, design and construction of simple or small-scale capital building, infrastructure improvement and strategic university sponsored projects, valued at up to $5M, employing project management best practices and methods to ensure work is planned and executed to meet applicable University standards, quality, code, regulatory and stakeholder requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the delivery of capital projects to ensure they are delivered within scope, budget, time and quality to project sponsor and stakeholder satisfaction;
  • Scheduling and coordinating project activities including resources, equipment and labour, and conducting site visits as necessary to ensure the project is on-track;
  • Supporting and assisting the Project Manager in developing and monitoring project budgets and forecasts;
  • Assisting in the preparation of cost estimates and project schedules;
  • Preparing and issuing accurate supporting project documentation as required, including contracts, change orders, work orders, purchase orders, etc., and ensuring necessary documentation is received from other parties (internal/external);
  • Managing external consultants and providing oversight and direction to internal staff in the project and scope definition, design, planning, procurement, contract management and commissioning of infrastructural and capital renewal projects; and
  • Organizing and implementing project execution through effective coordination of resources.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal environmental standards, regulations, and guidelines;
  • Strong project coordination skills including an understanding of project management principles, methods, and techniques;
  • Solid technical understanding and ability to define and refine requirements through a project lifecycle;
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to assess situations, think critically, and apply sound judgment in providing recommendations and making timely and informed choices;
  • The ability to develop strong relationships and trust by displaying honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct at all times;
  • A desire to assist others, along with a superior customer service orientation;
  • Knowledge of change management and process management techniques;
  • The ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate and present complex subject matter, and effectively engage stakeholders by tailoring the messaging according to the type of audience;
  • The ability to work independently as well as within a broader team; and
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and conflict resolution skills that enable positive and effective relationships;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to adapt to change and competing priorities, and to meet deadlines;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; and
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD and project management software (i.e., MS Project, Primavera) an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a diploma in Project Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in project management for architecture, planning, construction contract administration and small-scale capital building projects and initiatives (valued at up to $5M). Experience performing this work in a post-secondary environment would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working within and applying local, provincial, and federal environmental standards, regulations and guidelines.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001:2015 environment would be considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
