About the role
This position will be filled in accordance with the Agreement between the Board of Trustees and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 829: Educational Assistant Full Time Probationary Crescent Heights High School A 30 hours/week Educational Assistant is needed for Specialized Programming at Crescent Heights High School.
- Positive Behavior Support Training: Apply current training in positive behavior support techniques to encourage appropriate behavior and foster a supportive learning environment
- Self-Regulation Strategies: Assist students in developing self-regulation skills and coping mechanisms to manage emotions and behavior effectively.
- SIVA Training: Utilize current SIVA Training to maintain regulation, safety, and relationships.
- Adaptability: Able to adapt situations to engage individuals who may need additional support or redirection, ensuring inclusivity and participation in classroom activities
- Consistency, Routines, and Expectations: Understand and maintain consistency, routines, and clear expectations for individuals with diverse needs, ensuring a structured and supportive learning environment.
- Experience with Neurodiverse and Autism Spectrum: Possess experience working with neurodiverse students, including those on the autism spectrum, and understanding their unique learning styles and support requirements.
- Collaboration with Occupational Therapists: Under the supervision of a teacher, collaborate with occupational therapists to utilize the "just right room" as a therapeutic space, under their direction, to support students in sensory regulation and self-calming.
- Positive and empathetic team player: Able to maintain a positive attitude in difficult or and/or stressful situations.

About Peace Wapiti Public School Division
Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) provides service to approximately 5,800 Kindergarten to Grade 12 students in 36 schools, including nine Hutterite colony schools, two outreach schools, an online school, and educational programming at a group home facility.
The system provides schooling for students from Horse Lake First Nation and Kelly Lake Indigenous Community. Excluding the colony schools, the smallest school has an enrollment of 34 students and the largest has 623 students. Alternative Education provides flexible programming to 95 students. In the smaller and more rural high schools, some reliance is placed on distance education programs to augment the basic in-school offerings. Specialty programs exist to meet local needs.
PWPSD employs the full-time equivalent of 375 teachers and 600 non-teaching staff, in addition to a number of part-time and casual personnel. The Transportation Department manages 100 bus routes.
