Join the foundation of our paper-making excellence as a Quality Engineer at our St. Catharines paper mill! We're looking for hardworking individuals who are ready to roll up their sleeves and contribute to the essential tasks that keep our operations running smoothly. As a crucial part of our team, you'll be hands-on in the production process, assisting in various aspects of paper manufacturing. Requirements
What we need from you:
- Develop and maintain Mill Quality Management System.
- Ensure all Mill and Corporate Quality Management System Policies and Procedures are implemented and followed.
- Respond to & process customer complaints.
- Supervise Lab Analyst and ensure they are fulfilling all job responsibilities.
- Oversee the generating and sending out Certificates of Analysis (COA).
- Provide the Operations group with support on both short and long-term opportunities.
- Facilitate annual paper testing certification and annual Food Safety / GMP / Quality training for all employees (Mill Responsibilities, GMP, Workmanship, etc.)
- Review/approve Trial Requests and ensure Grades are set-up as needed. Support Mill Trial activity as needed.
- Plan and conduct studies, trials, and research to determine the feasibility of opportunities for process and product development
- Implementation and control of process/product improvement stay on track.
- Conduct grade views. Work with Process Leaders to help monitor and improve compliance to specifications, workmanship standards, and flat basis weight/moisture profiles.
- Work with operations daily to troubleshoot operational difficulties, which may produce off-spec product, and to reduce the variability of the product.
- Assist with process optimization opportunities based on input from management, operators, customers, consumers, industry leaders, and maintenance personnel.
- Track and analyze quality data, costs, and raw material usage to identify problems before there is a negative impact to business.
- Identify and assist with capital and non-capital project opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience with Food/Product Safety/GMP systems, HACCP, and Internal Auditing
- Working knowledge of PARCview or PI and JD Edwards desired.
- An understanding of papermaking, quality test methods, and data interpretation is a plus.
- Technical problem-solving skills and ability to lead and execute major quality projects.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, power point, etc.) required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Must be able to communicate with all levels of personnel from shop floor to leadership.
