Title: Regional Controller

Job Overview Reporting to the Vice-President, Corporate Controller, as the Regional Controller you are responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting operations within their region, ensuring compliance with corporate policies. You will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure accurate financial reporting and collaborate with cross-functional teams as a key business partner to ensure proper alignment with corporate financial strategies and objectives.

Your Day-to-day Responsibilities Will Include

  • Collaborating with business units and acting as an advisor to provide leaders with actionable insights and decision-making support.
  • Managing and overseeing all aspects of the financial operations for the region, including financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Leading the annual financial budget preparation for the region and ensuring alignment and support of the operations business plans. Monitoring and analyzing financial performance against budgets providing variance analysis to business unit operators.
  • Ensuring adherence to corporate policies, reporting deadlines and formats, Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and regulatory compliance, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and transparency. Providing necessary financial documentation, records and reports to auditors.
  • Leading, developing and providing guidance to regional accounting team, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and motivation, driving a high level of employee engagement.
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the accounting team.
  • Liaising closely with the Regional Vice-President, Corporate Controller to establish protocols, ensuring operations comply with regional and corporate objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing forecasts, proposals, and agreements for land development, home building, and investment projects, including monitoring and managing cash flows. Monitoring on-going compliance with the terms of business loans and operating lines.
  • Working closely with business units to prepare status reports on joint venture projects and foster positive relationships with business partners.
  • Acting as a Regional Compliance Officer to ensure homebuilding activities comply with FINTRAC legislation and provide regular reporting to the Corporate Compliance Officer.

Essential Requirements

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of controller or accounting experience within a structure of multiple enterprises in the Real Estate Development industry, or equivalent.
  • Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and PowerPoint), accounting and payroll software (NewStar, ADP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a controller in the Real Estate Development Industry is an asset.

Work Conditions You primarily work on-site in an office setting during regular business hours. Travel to other branch offices is sometimes required. Work outside of normal business hours may be required at times. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.
