Saputo Dairy Products Canada G.P. is seeking a Laboratory Technician, for a summer student opportunity within our organization. The Laboratory Technician at the Saputo Orangeville location is responsible to work in conjunction with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to assure the production of safe, quality products.
**Schedule:**Morning/Afternoon
**Contract End Date:**August 28, 2025
Salary:$29.25/ hour
There are salary increases in the first year of employment, with a target rate of $32.50/hour .

How you will make contributions that matter:
- Start up and shut down of laboratory, equipment and machines
- Collect samples of cheese, swab samples, water samples, and air samples from the plant
- Perform various laboratory tests to measure Ph, fat, fat solids, and moisture content, as well as a number and types of bacteria, mould, and yeast, and make an assessment of finished products and composites samples
- Test pasteurized milk samples and whey samples for composition and microbial analyses
- Record results generated from test’s and communicate with departments and Plant Manager
- Swab various sites in plant twice per month, or as scheduled, for Health Canada and perform tests on swabs
- Receive, review and approve Certificates of Analysis (CoA) from suppliers
- Receive and review “on-hold” records, issue authorization for products on hold and maintain the Control and Release log/Maestro
- Send out samples for third-party testing
- Order laboratory supplies
- Assist plant operations with trouble shooting/root cause analysis of food safety/quality issues
- Attend the daily Operations Meeting, when required, to facilitate the grading session
- Report immediately to Supervisor and/or Plant Manager any/all food safety and quality issues identified
- Comply with all Saputo Orangeville Health and Safety and Food Safety and Quality regulations
- Comply with all Saputo Orangeville policies and procedures
- Attend scheduled shift regularly and punctually ready to fulfil all duties required
- Calibrate various analytical equipment
- Focus on customer satisfaction
- Take on additional duties as required
You are best suited for the role if you have…
- Recognized post-secondary degree or diploma in (or equivalent) in Food Science and Technology, Biology or Chemistry
- Laboratory and microbiology experience an asset
- Detailed knowledge of the functions and tasks carried out in a QA laboratory
- Advanced computer skills
- Superior communication, organizational, and analytical skills
- Interpersonal skills to facilitate project and enhance inter-departmental interactions
- Strong time management and administrative skills
- Accuracy, attention to detail, ability to complete required documentation
- Must be self-motivated, results oriented and possess high degree of initiative, and work well with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently
- Reliable and committed to quality and customer satisfaction
- Must presently be able to perform all duties of current role
- Proficient and dependable in current position with no recorded performance or attendance issues
