About the role
Residential Interior Designer Location: Calgary Custom Home Builder Salary: $70k - 80k Position Overview
We are on the lookout for a talented, detail-driven Interior Designer with experience in Project Management to join a top tier custom home builder in Calgary, This role is ideal for someone with a strong eye for design, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to balance aesthetics with functionality. You’ll be the bridge between client vision and project execution—leading interior design projects from concept to completion while ensuring quality, budget, and timelines are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with clients to understand their goals, needs, and vision for each space.
- Develop and refine design concepts that reflect client preferences and align with functional goals—incorporating elements such as color, texture, lighting, and layout.
- Present comprehensive design proposals using visual tools including mood boards, sketches, and 3D renderings.
- Source materials, finishes, and furnishings; negotiate with vendors and contractors to meet quality standards and stay within budget.
- Oversee day-to-day execution of design projects from planning through to installation, ensuring adherence to design intent and schedule.
- Conduct regular site visits to track progress, identify and resolve challenges, and uphold quality control.
- Stay current with design trends, material innovations, and industry best practices to bring fresh ideas and solutions to projects.
- Monitor and manage project risks, timelines, and deliverables to maintain exceptional client satisfaction.
Qualifications & Skills
- At least 5 years of experience in interior design including project management
- Experience working for a custom home builder in North America
- Proficiency in industry-standard design tools such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or similar software.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to coordinate diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills when engaging with clients, suppliers, and contractors.
- Experience in product management or development is considered an asset.
- Skilled in gathering detailed requirements and translating them into actionable design strategies.
- Demonstrated ability in proactive risk identification and project troubleshooting.
- A degree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field is preferred, though not mandatory.
