Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN), has invested more than $100 million in cutting edge infrastructure, including a $27 million state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant, which plays a pivotal role in supporting our progressive development initiatives.

TFN’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) became operational in January 2016. The STP is classified as an EOCP Level III facility and is designed to treat up to 8,000 m3 of municipal wastewater daily. The facility uses Xylem’s proprietary Intermittent Cycle Extended Aeration System (ICEAS®) to produce effluent of re-use quality (greater exposure potential) and Class B biosolids, aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship.

The Facilities Department is responsible for the oversight and maintenance of more than 25 government and member facility buildings.

POSITION SUMMARY As our community continues to flourish, Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) is seeking an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Utilities Supervisor, you will assist in performing preventative maintenance, inspections, upgrades, and other work on electrical and automated systems within the Sewage Treatment Plant, wastewater collection system, water distribution system, and storm water pumping stations (the Water and Wastewater Infrastructure).
Additionally, this position will respond to residential and commercial building electrical needs as operationally required. Your contributions will play a vital role in ensuring the continued delivery of water and wastewater services to TFN’s members and stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties described hereunder are intended to be representative of the position and are not considered as all inclusive.

  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Water & Wastewater electrical infrastructure.

  • Perform instrumentation calibrations and maintain/repair electrical and instrumentation assets at the Sewage Treatment Plant.

  • Conduct day-to-day maintenance and repair of Utilities Department electrical equipment.

  • Respond to emergency callouts, including power outages and system issues.

  • Assist with replacement and installation of electrical equipment such as:

    • Automatic Transfer Switches
    • Motors and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
    • Panelboards and disconnects
    • PLC components
  • Perform annual maintenance checks on disconnects and terminals within TFN’s municipal infrastructure.

  • Prioritize and respond to Facilities emergencies and complete any necessary updates and repairs to minimize operational downtime.

  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and external partners as needed.

  • Prepare documentation, maintain records, and ensure accurate reporting.

  • Follow all TFN safety programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain certifications through ongoing training and coursework.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Red Seal Electrician certification.

    • Preference given to candidates with additional certification in Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control.
  • Minimum3 years of experiencein an Industrial setting.

  • Field Safety Representative (FSR) Class B certification required.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.

    • Confined space entry and rescue certification is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documents.

  • Strong understanding of applicable regulations, policies, and safety standards.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

    • Experience with CMMS, SCADA, HMI, GIS, Wonderware, or similar systems is an asset.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and a strong safety record.

  • ValidClass 5 BC Driver’s Licensewith a clean driver’s abstract.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physically demanding work environment.

  • Required to work under varying weather conditions.

  • Work at heights and in confined spaces may be required.

  • On-call or emergency response work may be required.

HOURS OF WORK

  • Hours of work are a scheduled total of 40 hours per week.

  • Standard hours Monday–Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, with occasional evening or weekend work based on operational needs.

COMPENSATION

  • $44.26 to $48.20 per hour. Placement within the pay scale is based on a review of skills, experience and internal equity

  • Annual cost of living increases

  • BC Municipal Pension Plan – employee contributes 8.61%, employer contributes 9.31%
