POSITION OVERVIEW The City of Maple Ridge is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals interested in leading children in a dynamic recreation setting. This position provides an opportunity to build leadership and teamwork skills and create a safe, fun, active, and inclusive environment for children ages 3 to 12 years in group recreation programs.

Recreation Leader 1 staff work year-round in both indoor and outdoor settings, facilitating a variety of activities and games within a team. Successful candidates will support and promote a positive and inclusive space, follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, and develop professional mentoring relationships with participants and colleagues. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Some knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction of recreation programs.

  • Some knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work.

  • Ability to provide leadership and instruction for special events, programs, camps and other activities.

  • Ability to work as part of a team, communicating and collaborating well with others

  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively with program participants.

  • Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of Grade 10, plus some relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

REQUIRED LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES Valid Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR/AED, Level C.

  • Standard/Intermediate First Aid & CPR/AED, level C Training: 2 days in-class or blended, approximately 16 hours, certification is valid for 3 years or
  • Standard/Intermediate First Aid & CPR/AED, level C RE- CERTIFICATION Training, previously completed a full course, renew certification prior to expiry, 1 day approximately class, 8 hours, valid for 3 years.

-***Please note:***Emergency/Basic First Aid & CPR – A or B are not valid for this position.

HOURS OF WORK This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).

**Please note:**Recreation Services summer day camp programs operate Monday to Friday between 8AM – 5:30PM, depending on the program. Candidates working day camps can anticipated hours between 4 to 8 hours a day from June 29 – September 4, 2026.

The City of Maple Ridge is located on the traditional territory of the Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations north of the Fraser River between the Pitt River and Stave Falls in the shadow of the Golden Ears Mountain.
