The Ombudsman and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner is an Officer of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, The Ombudsman and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner is an Officer of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, mandated under The Ombudsman Act, 2012, and The Public Interest Disclosure Act. The Ombudsman and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner values are fairness, integrity, accountability, independence, impartiality, confidentiality, respect, competence, and consistency. The office of the Ombudsman receives, assesses, and investigates complaints from citizens about provincial and municipal government services, Crown Corporations, and publicly funded health entities. Through file work and public/public sector education, the office of the Ombudsman works to ensure government accountability to the citizens it serves and to promote fairness in the delivery of public services. The office of the Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner investigates disclosures of wrongdoings and complaints of reprisal from provincial public sector employees and helps to ensure the provincial government provides a workplace where wrongdoings can be safely raised and appropriately addressed.

The Ombudsman and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner is inviting individuals who are collaborative, detail oriented, and trauma-informed, with investigative backgrounds, to join the team in the role of Assistant Ombudsman (Assistant Commissioner). An Assistant Ombudsman responds to and analyzes a large volume of requests for assistance from citizens with a focus on matters of administration and engages with provincial and municipal governments to resolve complaints through negotiation, conciliation, mediation, investigation, and other non-adversarial methods. Assistant Ombudsman are also responsible for delivering public education. An Assistant Commissioner analyzes and responds to confidential disclosures of wrongdoing and complaints of reprisal made by public servants.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be acquired through undergraduate or graduate degrees in justice, social or health sciences, public administration and related training and experience in conflict resolution and investigations. Preference will be given to candidates with municipal experience.
