About the role

About Us

The Local Charity is a volunteer-run Canadian registered charity based in Toronto, devoted to creating the diverse leaders of tomorrow. Our mission is to help young people break the cycle of poverty by transforming how they see themselves and what they believe is possible, so they can build a life they're genuinely excited about. We're a lean operation, run predominantly by volunteers with minimal overhead. Our programs are delivered through our sister brand, Success Accelerator, supporting our three pillars: 🧠 Mental Wellness 📚 Essential Life Skills 💻 Technical Fluency

The Role

We're looking for an Operations Lead to be the Executive Director's right hand in running our volunteer team. TLC is at a turning point. We're moving from organic growth to structured sustainability, and one of the clearest things standing between us and that goal is capacity: too much of how the team runs still depends on the founder. This role exists to change that. You'll own the systems and project management that keep our team of around 12 volunteers efficient, supported, and moving, so the work scales without everything routing back to one person. You'll be the person the team comes to. You'll keep projects on track across programming, marketing, and fundraising, run onboarding so new volunteers get up to speed and self-sufficient quickly, answer the day-to-day questions, and flag early when something (or someone) needs attention. When this role is working, the whole team runs smoother and the ED gets time back to focus on the mission. This is a build-and-grow role. You'll start owning the day-to-day, and as you earn broader decision-making, it's designed to grow into a wider leadership role on the team. The ceiling is real, and it's earned through ownership.

Our values tell you who thrives here. Two matter most for this role

Integrity: we do what we say we'll do. You follow through, you close the loop, and people can count on what you've committed to Agency: you own it. You move things forward without waiting to be told, bring recommendations rather than only questions, and are comfortable being the person others rely on Beyond that: Believing in our cause is mandatory 😃 You communicate proactively, especially when something's stuck. You flag it early rather than letting it become a problem You can hold multiple projects at once and keep them organized without losing the thread You're steady and adaptable in a dynamic, volunteer-driven environment where not everything is defined yet Strong interpersonal skills, because most of this role is working well with people Experience in operations, project management, or a similar role is a plus Familiarity with AI and tools like Slack, and Google Workspace is a plus

Responsibilities

Own the systems and project management that keep the team efficient and scalable. Track what's committed, by whom and by when, and surface slippage before it becomes a problem Run onboarding for new volunteers, from their first walkthrough through to self-sufficiency, with an eye to retention and peer support Be the first point of contact for the team's day-to-day questions and blockers. Resolve what you can, escalate what needs the ED Keep a read on team health, and flag early when someone's overloaded or going quiet. No one struggles alone here Help set and champion the way we work: clear communication, follow-through, and a team that feels genuinely supported Partner closely with the ED, taking work off her plate as trust and context build
