About the role
Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Digital Ship will work within the Digital Ship team at Vancouver Shipyards and have exposure to the various areas of R&D Innovation, Vessel New Construction and In Service Support at one of the largest shipbuilding companies in Canada. Seaspan partnered with Canada’s Ocean Supercluster to develop 3D digital twin capabilities for use in vessel In-Service Support (ISS) scenarios. A digital twin can be used throughout the ship’s life cycle to better manage maintenance, repairs, refits, and major overhauls. This project has developed and integrated digital twin solutions in a scalable platform that integrates with sensors, communication systems, 3D models and visualization technologies all to minimize the service interruption of maintenance/refit and maximize vessel availability. Incremental development will be carried out as part of the Digital Ship Technical Development Roadmap Plan as new requirements and additional data are acquired.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
