Where business acumen meets operational impact: Lead the business solutions team that integrates technology, finance, contract management, and client relations to empower Edmonton’s waste services team.
As the General Supervisor, Business Solutions and Integration, you will provide the essential support infrastructure that enables the Waste Management Services branch to operate effectively and efficiently. This is a critical role for the branch’s accountability and success, ensuring core functions, including contract and procurement oversight, operational finance and billing, data operations, and technology program management are reliable, integrated, and optimized.
Reporting to the Director, Business Integration and Technical Services, the General Supervisor leads a dedicated team of over 25 staff, including 6 supervisory direct reports, to deliver the foundational business solutions and data integrity necessary for strategic decision-making and continuous operational improvement. Serving as a key integrating voice on the section leadership team, your leadership ensures the seamless delivery of waste services to the public while maintaining fiscal responsibility and strong client relationships.
What will you do?
- Provide dedicated leadership and mentorship to a multi-disciplinary team, with complete accountability for talent acquisition, succession planning, and performance management processes
- Develop and implement the strategic direction and annual work plans for all operational support sections (contract oversight, finance, data, and technology) to directly align with the overarching Waste Services branch goals
- Work with Corporate Finance to direct and oversee all finance functions, including the preparation of operating and capital budgets, rigorous expenditure tracking, variance analysis and accurate client service billing
- Act as the primary steward for contract management and procurement integrity, ensuring all vendor relationships and agreements mitigate legal, financial, and operational risks for the branch
- Monitor, implement and analyze branch-wide key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends and proactively address potential deficiencies
- Oversee all branch data analytics and workflow automation activities
- Manage GIS data integrity and route optimization initiatives to ensure waste collection services are geographically efficient and data-driven
- Work closely with our billing partner, Epcor, to facilitate monthly customer utility bills
- Utilize customer service experience to optimize the compost sales and customer support team
Qualifications:
- Experience, knowledge, training and/or education in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline
- Related leadership experience in a large, complex organization, including managing multi-disciplinary teams accountable for large, politically sensitive, and complex projects and processes within a fully integrated system
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing change, building organizational talent, and empowering resources to achieve outcomes
- Experience working with Unions, managing and resolving labour relations issues
- Combinations of education and experience will be considered
Assets:
- A Master’s Degree in a related field
- Certification or coursework/training in strategic planning, financial management, public administration, supply chain management, project management, performance measures and analytics, change management, or other leadership training

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:
- 1 permanent, full-time position
- Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
- Salary: (Annually) $123,938.39 - $154,920.88
- Hire is dependent on Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
