Volunteer Social Media, Communications and Engagement Officer
About the role
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support the Women’s Environmental Sustainability Network Ottawa (WESNO). This position will support WESNO's social media, draft other communication products, and help organize its events.
We work together and are creative, so being part of the team is also an opportunity to share your ideas and try out new things to help womxn environmental professionals in Ottawa. We have an exciting summer planned and are looking for volunteers who can commit at least two hours per week.
What is WESNO? WESNO was created to address the recognized need to increase the representation and leadership of persons who identify as womxn in environmental sustainability in Ottawa to help accelerate our transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy. WESNO promotes the success and leadership of environmental sustainability professionals who identify as womxn through: Networks: developing and maintaining an informal network to share resources, knowledge, advice and to break down silos across industries Information: acting as a central resource for relevant references, news, events and career opportunities to grow and diversify understanding of in-depth sustainability topics
Count me in! What's Next? We are looking for volunteers to: Manage Social Media: This involves regularly posting on our LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook pages to provide members with up-to-date info on the latest sustainability-related reports, on green jobs, and on interesting events throughout Ottawa. Organize & Plan Events: This involves supporting networking events and webinars, including potentially identifying and liaising with high-profile speakers.

WESNO is open to all women including cis-women and trans-women. We are also open to Two-Spirit, non-binary and gender non-conforming people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of professional women.
Objectives:
WESNO promotes the success and leadership of women environmental sustainability professionals in Ottawa through: ● Networks: by developing and maintaining an informal network through common areas of interest to share resources, knowledge, advice and to break down silos across industries ● Information: by acting as a central resource for relevant references, news, events and career opportunities to grow, advance and diversify understanding of in-depth sustainability topics ● Supporting: by creating mentoring and career development opportunities for women starting or advancing a career in environmental sustainability
