The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications for the 1-Year Term position of Police Quartermaster Technician. The Quartermaster Technician position will play a vital support role in the LPS Financial Services Section by performing inventory control, providing administrative and customer support, and implementing asset management systems.

The Police Quartermaster Technician works within the guidelines of City of Lethbridge policy and procedures and LPS policy and procedures. This position is challenging in that there is a large number of uncommon inventory items, where use, restrictions on issuance, authority to issue, tracking and disposal are inconsistent among them. Learning these parameters while having regular interruptions and changing priorities requires a mentally strong individual who can apply a systematic approach to this work.

The incumbent will be expected to facilitate transactions and provide customer service in the Quartermaster Store, receive and deliver goods and update systems to maintain the inventory register. They advise LPS members on documentation and approval needs, information about stock and shipments. The LPS Quartermaster Technician position will require strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally, verbally and in writing with internal and external customers. The incumbent must be adaptable as priorities change quickly, and be well organized to ensure all work gets completed amid disruptions. Attention to detail, recording of information and maintaining of accurate records is paramount for this role.

The LPS Quartermaster Technician must build a solid working relationship with all of the staff at LPS, personnel in Financial Services, and Purchasing at City Hall and a large base of suppliers. Wage: $35.63 per hour |2025 Interim Job Rate.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

(Flexible/Compressed Work Week is available)

This temporary full-timeterm position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract.

As the Police Quartermaster Technician, you will:

  • Monitor and ensure sufficient inventory levels are maintained for, but not limited to, uniforms, stationary, forms, emergency equipment.

  • Receive and record incoming product

  • Assist customers of the store, distribute and record outgoing product.

  • Stocking and implementing space management strategy.

  • Pick up and delivery of product as needed.

  • Research goods, services, and suppliers

  • Expedite and arrange delivery of goods and services in the timeframe required by Lethbridge Police Service (LPS)

  • Maintain supporting documentation for purchases, receipts, and requisitions

  • Facilitate communications between the supplier and internal customer

  • Physical and electronic document management

  • Implement asset management plan components as assigned, such as updating the register for additions and disposals, meeting with LPS equipment owners to collect and share information, run and distribute reports.

  • Implement asset disposal process as assigned, such as collecting equipment to decommission, following LPS disposal review process, and facilitating disposal / recycle/ sale process.

  • Source and procurement of goods/services and communicates with suppliers as required

  • Obtain and evaluate quotes from new and existing suppliers based on best value

  • Supplier Payment Inquiry – Responding to Suppliers inquiring about status of payment

  • Check existence of Purchase Order(s) of invoices received by City Accounts Payable, approves or rejects invoice for payment, supply Purchase Order if required.

  • Other Finance or Quartermaster tasks as assigned.

As the successful candidate, you will have:

  • High School Diploma/GED/Equivalent

  • Up to two years of post secondary education in Business Administration or equivalent education/experience

  • Considerable administrative and customer service experience is required

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft office suite (e.g. word, excel, outlook), computers, and point of sale software is required

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to Senior Management, City Departments, vendors, clients, and internal customers

  • A thorough knowledge of Buyer, Purchasing and Materials Management roles and the ability to understand technical concerns regarding products and services

  • Familiarity with JD Edwards Financial System inquiry, invoicing and purchasing screens, warehouse management, inventory management and analyzing quotes

  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is paramount

  • Must be able to negotiate and problem solve

  • Ability to prioritize and work in a multi-tasked, fast-paced, environment communicating with customers, vendors, city departments daily, ensuring goods and services are available when required at the best possible value.

  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and discretion

  • Understanding of principals of public procurement would be considered an asset

  • Experience in police/law enforcement environment would be an asset

Please note: Heavy Physical Demands - The Police Quartermaster Technician must possess the physical abilities required to maneuver inventory from various heights (exceeds 6 feet), of various sizes and shapes, and various weights (in excess of 50 pounds). The successful applicant must be able to perform these physical job requirements and to accept/follow safety procedures and standard operating practices integral to the role.

The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

  • All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.
