The PI Manager Data Governance and Privacy role is dedicated to shaping and championing a comprehensive data governance and privacy strategy for the Personal Insurance (PI) team. With a strong focus on collaboration and accountability, the role ensures the development and implementation of inclusive data guidelines, retention practices, and quality metrics. It also plays a key leadership role in fulfilling responsibilities as a data principal and privacy advocate, helping to foster a culture of trust, transparency, and ethical data use across the organization.

What you’ll do:
- Lead data governance and data privacy mandate PI to ensure the business team maintains a robust and effective set of risks and controls within the data space.
- Deliver all data quality and retention artefacts as specified by DGO (Data Governance Office) to ensure PI is compliant to data quality and retention controls
- Develop data quality reporting capability using
- Build data governance and privacy maturity across the PI through the adoption of data governance and privacy standards in BAU activities
- Support internal Personal insurance stakeholders to ensure that changes in the business, in the form of product, project, or transformational program, will conform to the data governance and privacy standards.
- Develop subject matter expertise in the application of data governance standards for P&C insurance data, specifically in Aviva Canada’s changing data landscape. Provide sound and pragmatic solutions for data governance matters in PI.
- Work with Aviva Canada data operations, governance, and privacy teams to maintain alignment between group frameworks and policies and provide adequate reporting
- Be a champion for our customers. Work diligently to protect customer data while taking a risk-based approach to enabling the effective use of data for solutions.
- Build, monitor and maintain data risks and controls across the PI business, ensuring existing risks are managed back to tolerance and emerging risks are understood and adequately articulated in the risk and control framework.
- Ensure data governance activity, data risks and issues are actively communicated, with risk position well understood, to the DGO and DPO.
- Define and implement the organizational structures and operating models needed to support the objectives of the data governance and data privacy program in the Personal insurance business.
- Take on the responsibility as both the data principal and data privacy lead for Personal insurance and engage in active collaboration with other data leaders across Aviva Canada
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience in financial data infrastructure environment and business intelligence
- Deep knowledge and experience in data management, data stewardship, data governance, and privacy laws with respect to handling of personal data
- Experience in the Property/Casualty insurance industry will be a significant asset, including knowledge and understanding of key performance metrics within Personal Insurance.
- Experience with reporting and data platforms and their querying languages. i.e. Qlik Sense, Power BI, Azure BI Platform, Tableau, SAS, Business Objects, etc. Data query languages such as SQL, SAS, Python, R etc
- Demonstrated data expertise and experience in data lifecycle, including data engineering, modelling and visualization, data insights analysis, dashboards, and reporting
- Demonstrated ability to build and execute on strategic roadmaps, communicate, and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels, and balance independent decision-making with consensus building
- Demonstrated successful organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to foster and build good working relationships with business areas inside and outside the business unit.
