The Opportunity Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis/Deputy Treasurer, the Financial Analyst provides support to the Senior Financial Analyst and technical financial expertise to various departments. Key responsibilities include conducting detailed reviews and analyses of operating and capital budgets along with managing the financial activities of the assigned portfolio. This includes preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, maintaining financial controls and quality assurance processes, preparing financial reports, supporting the development of operating and capital budgets, conducting financial analysis and forecasting, and preparing and monthly financial variance reports.
This position supports the Town’s long-term financial sustainability, viability, and financial integrity. The position acts as a resource for directors, managers and project managers throughout the operating and capital budgeting process and provides ongoing maintenance of grant funding.
As the Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Support the development of annual operating and capital budgets and business plan including service level changes and related financial analysis.
- Provide ongoing financial planning support to departments through variance analysis, monthly reviews, and regular consultation with departments.
- Prepares and review monthly and year-end journal entries, accruals, reconciliations and supporting schedules to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Assist in preparing regular operating and capital reports for both internal and external reporting and support year-end audit activities.
- Provide ongoing updates and support for Tangible Capital Assets (TCA) reporting and related processes.
- Administer the financial components of grant programs, including assisting with submissions, reporting and payment tracking.
- Act as a financial resource to departments by providing guidance on general ledger structure and budget availability, procurement requirements and financial processes.
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate We are seeking an experienced professional with a post-secondary degree in Accounting or closely related field. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of three (3) years’ finance experience, preferably in the Municipal environment with some knowledge of accounting activities and/or financial analysis.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices, data processing systems, and financial control procedures. We are seeking an individual who has experience in financial variance analysis, preparing financial reports and developing spreadsheet and/or database applications.
The successful candidate for Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
This position offers a salary range of $87,912.40 to $ $109,890.50 plus a competitive benefit package.
