EPCOR’s Infrastructure Services is hiring a Network & Security Architect [Fill-Time, Permanent] to join our team in either Edmonton Alberta.
This role is a strategic and technical blend of network architecture and security, with network serving as the backbone that connects EPCOR’s internal services and external security platforms. You’ll lead the design, implementation, and evolution of EPCOR’s enterprise network and security infrastructure, ensuring scalable, secure, and forward-thinking solutions.
The successful candidate will bring an enterprise mindset, technical creativity, and the ability to plan for long-term infrastructure needs. You’ll act as a lead in key areas, spearheading initiatives that align with EPCOR’s business goals, regulatory standards, and information management best practices. This role also includes evaluating and delivering new technologies and platforms and collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure seamless integration across EPCOR’s systems.
This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s Where We Work hybrid program, depending on business needs and upon meeting eligibility requirements.
What you’d be responsible for
Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure, Architecture, Storage & Computing, your key accountabilities will include:
- Providing input into the strategic direction of EPCOR’s Network, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure Architecture.
- Leading the design and deployment of scalable network and security solutions that align with EPCOR’s enterprise strategy and regulatory requirements.
- Developing and maintaining architecture, configuration, and compliance documentation for all assigned projects.
- Driving the implementation of advanced technologies such as SDWAN and SASE, and evaluating emerging platforms for long-term scalability.
- Supporting business development activities, including technical assessments for new locations and acquisitions.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and recommend technology solutions.
- Participating in major incident investigations and enabling timely resolution of service outages.
- Anticipating the impact of technology changes and advising on risk mitigation strategies.
- Working with vendors and partners to establish support channels and manage proactive engagements.
- Supporting application teams in assessing and migrating workloads from on-premise to cloud environments.
- Ensuring network infrastructure is configured in alignment with EPCOR’s Security Standards and compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrating a high-performance, disciplined, safe, accountable, and innovative approach to work.
What’s required to be successful
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and behaviours:
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma focusing on Information Systems, or combination of experience and training in a related field.
Preferred:
- IT security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISA, GIAC) or similar professional certifications).
Experience
Required:
- 7+ years' experience working as a network engineer supporting large, multi-site organizations.
- 5+ years’ experience in enterprise-level technology adoption or transformation projects.
- Strong understanding of IT security and service management frameworks.
- Experience designing and implementing network security tools such as IPS, Firewall, SSLV, URL Filtering, and XDR.
- Proven ability to develop, evaluate, and present technical solutions.
- Experience creating technical system documentation, process maps, and standards.
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with CiscoandPalo Alto network and security devices, including PanoramaandCisco Catalyst Center.
- Familiarity with technologies such as **SDWAN,****SASE,****MPLS,**VPN,IPSEC, andBGP and other network technologies and protocols.
- Knowledge of information security frameworks and standards including **ISO 27001,****NIST,****PCI DSS,**HITECH,GDPR, andService Organization Controls (SOC 2) and industry information security best practices.

- Strategic thinker with the ability to plan for long-term infrastructure needs.
