By establishing national knowledge networks and focusing on Indigenous-led practices, the WRCC seeks to enhance wildfire resilience across Canada. This holistic and adaptive approach addresses the increasing wildfire threat due to climate change and evolving land use, promoting sustainable land management and honoring traditional ecological knowledge. The WRCC’s strategy is built on the principles of “engage, connect, and accelerate” to ensure a more resilient future for communities, structures, and landscapes.
Position overview:
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will lead WRCC’s communications and engagement efforts, managing the organization’s digital presence, public messaging, and outreach activities. This role is responsible for creating compelling content, managing social media channels, responding to inquiries, coordinating events, and supporting fundraising and stakeholder engagement initiatives. The Coordinator will ensure consistent messaging across platforms, strengthen WRCC’s brand, and amplify the organization’s impact nationally.
The ideal candidate is a creative and adaptable communicator with experience in nonprofit marketing and communications. They will have excellent writing and storytelling skills, a strong understanding of social media strategy, and the ability to engage a diverse audience across Canada. Experience in content creation, media relations, and community engagement is highly valued.
Job Responsibilities
Communications and Marketing
- Manage general inquiries via organizational email accounts and ensure timely responses.
- Maintain, monitor, and grow WRCC’s social media presence across multiple platforms, creating engaging content and analyzing metrics to inform strategy.
- Draft, edit, and distribute newsletters, press releases, briefing notes, and other communications materials.
- Produce clear and accessible content that conveys complex information to diverse audiences, including Indigenous communities, government agencies, and the public.
- Assist with layout, design, and visual content creation for digital and print materials using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools.
- Monitor media coverage and digital mentions of WRCC and prepare reports on communications impact.
- Support branding consistency across all communications and marketing materials.
- Coordinate internal communications to ensure staff and network members are informed of WRCC activities.
- Collaborate with staff to develop communications strategies for new initiatives, campaigns, or events.
- Support fundraising and donor communications, including development of appeal materials, donor updates, and stewardship communications.
- Contribute to storytelling efforts, including case studies, profiles, and success stories that highlight WRCC’s programs and impact.
Events and Community Engagement
- Plan, promote, and coordinate events, workshops, and webinars, including logistics, promotion, and content development.
- Interview participants, develop event summaries, and produce content for social media, newsletters, and website updates.
- Support community engagement initiatives and foster collaboration with Indigenous partners, local organizations, and stakeholders.
Digital and Administrative Support
- Assist in developing and maintaining WRCC’s website and CRM framework.
- Track, analyze, and report on communications metrics, website traffic, social media engagement, and newsletter performance.
- Ensure all communications align with WRCC’s mission, values, and branding.
- Support project management for communications initiatives and coordinate with other WRCC teams to maximize reach and impact.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support advocacy campaigns by preparing materials and messaging that influence public awareness and policy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on marketing campaigns, sponsorships, or partnership communications.
- Maintain an up-to-date media contact list and foster relationships with journalists, influencers, and community leaders.
- Identify opportunities to leverage emerging digital platforms and tools to enhance engagement and outreach.
- Support grant applications and reports with written communications materials when required.
- Assist in developing training or guidance materials for network members or volunteers on communications best practices.
- Coordinate with external vendors or agencies that support website development, engagement campaigns, and other communications initiatives, contributing to a collaborative working approach.
Work Hours and Benefits:
- Term position with guaranteed funding through mid-2028, with ongoing efforts to secure long-term, sustainable funding.
- $80,000 - $95,000 annually (commensurate with experience) plus benefits.
- Full-time position with flexible remote work options within Canada.
- Travel required for events (approximately four per year).
Qualifications and Skills
- Post-secondary degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of relevant experience, preferably in nonprofit organizations, national/membership-based organizations, or emergency response/wildfire programs.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; experience producing newsletters, press releases, social media content, and other communications materials.
- Experience managing and maintaining digital tools and platforms to support day-to-day operations and workflows.
- Experience in donor engagement, philanthropy, government relations, or national/international nonprofit communications is an asset.
- Ability to travel for events approximately four times per year.
- Strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Graphic design skills are a plus; excellent writing and storytelling skills are essential.
