The Equity Research department provides in-depth financial analysis, industry expertise and thematic coverage of approximately 900 stocks that power our institutional clients with the information they need to make informed investment decisions.  We are searching for an ADoR (Associate Director of Research), who will be responsible for managing a team of Equity Research Associates, overseeing recruiting and talent retention, as well as contributing to our research strategy, product, AI and data projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in equity research, capital markets talent recruiting & development, data analysis, and a solid understanding of the regulatory space in equity research. This role is part of our Equity Research management team and reports into the Directors of Research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting and retaining a global team of Equity Research Associates, ensuring high performance and professional development.
  • Support Equity Research Associates on all aspects of career development while maintaining discretion and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Contribute to the Equity Research Associate Development Program by organizing training, speakers, and knowledge share opportunities for the Associates.
  • Oversee Equity Research Associate recruiting.
  • Capable of attracting and retaining top talent.
  • Manage wide variety of projects within Equity Research, requiring strong excel skills.
  • Work closely with the Directors of Research on day-to-day of the department, optimizing research distribution and increasing client impact.
  • Understand compliance and the regulatory environment and act as a coach and resource to direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
  • Collaborate and partner with multiple stakeholders, across research, sales and trading.
  • Act as a problem solver, addressing and resolving issues that arise within the team or projects.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in recruiting, managing teams, project management, and equity research.
  • Minimum of 5+ years in sell-side Equity Research, as a Research Associate and/or Analyst.
  • Proven track record in recruiting, leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience working with Equity Research production teams – including knowledge of authoring and publishing processes – would be an asset.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in strategic discussions.
  • Highly skilled in Excel and data management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to work.
  • Candidate willing to be licensed by securities regulator in the US and/or Canada (including passing FINRA Series 24 and/or other exams within probation period).

Additional Information:

  • Requires in-office presence, min 4 days a week, starting prior to 7am.
  • Requires travel New York/Toronto.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
