About the Role

As a Sr. Environmental Specialist, you will lead the establishment, implementation, maintenance, and standardization of environmental management systems to ISO 14001 Standard. This role combines strategic and operational responsibilities, including developing processes and work instructions for ISO 14001, conducting operational environmental controls at the operation level, advising and cross-functionally supporting specialists and managers in factory planning and operations on environmental topics.

This position is in-person and located in the charming town of St. Thomas ON.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish, implement, maintain, and standardize the environmental management system with a focus on ISO 14001.

  • Develop processes and work instructions to support ISO 14001 implementation.

  • Oversee operational environmental control and support the sites permitting regime.

  • Advise and support specialists and managers in factory planning and operations on environmental topics.

  • Provide expert advice on environmental assessments included, but not limited to, noise, odour, emissions, light, contaminated land and emergency response.

  • Communicate with authorities and conduct regular internal and external audits and reporting.

  • Assess environmental documentation from suppliers.

  • Coordinate and support the training department in conducting environmental training sessions.

  • Lead on investigations of environmental complaints, providing a detailed assessment of the complaint and proposed mitigation action, meeting with local groups and internal stakeholders as required.

What you bring to the Team

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science or related field.

  • Experience in battery cell production, high hazard industry or automotive industry

  • Excellent understanding and proven ability to implement and optimize environmental management processes within an operational setting.

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 standard and environmental management system implementation.

  • Proficiency in environmental auditing processes and compliance standards.

  • Strong understanding of environmental documentation and reporting requirements.

  • Excellent understanding and proven ability to implement and optimize environmental management processes within an operational setting.

  • Effective communication skills for liaising with management, cross-functional teams, external partners, and regulatory agencies.

  • Able to work alone, as well part of a team with strong organizational (time and project management), interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and environmental management software.
